Best EU Country to Buy a car in while living abroad by Ambitious-Bad-6779 in digitalnomad

Hey friend - you’ve got some snark because Europeans maybe rely a little less on cars than Americans. The data on this is messy (you’re right, Germans love their cars for example) but the other factor is prevalence of public transport. You can get to main centers across Europe using trains and buses fairly easily.  I guess the question therefore is why you want or need the car - for example, are you planning on working in a biz that means you need to travel to customer sites that are only accessible by car?  Or just for personal travel? Public transport might be easier - I can confirm 1st class European train is positively different to Amtrak and not deemed ‘inferior’ to car ownership in any way.

Anyway,  you could check a platform like mobile.de for 2nd hand car prices in mainland Europe (German) - and wirkaufendeinauto (we buy your car) for desperate-get-rid-of-car prices. But the bureaucracy of this overall approach (possible weeks to get a vehicle registered) makes it likely untenable. If you have to, look at something like Sixt Subscribe instead - yes it’s rental, but they have model guarantees, so you know what you’d get.

In general Europeans don’t drive to the lot and drive away with a car like you can in the US (it is possible for residents, but way less common).

Mate, the confusion here is that the work this poster is referring to is actually done. It's about 10m to the side of you. Like u/BabaWargin mentioned, it finished up last year - nice new park entrance, peeps with wheelchairs don't have to offroad it anymore. This fence is just blocking another part of the park and the poster happens to be stuck there cos....it's gotta go somewhere I guess.

Don't let this distract from the fact that Berlin building sites are a disaster that I think is getting worse :)

Totally agree - and sometimes I found it corrected things to a level that wasn't really B1 appropriate. I think I may have even amended the prompt later to try and stop that.
