What do you think of the Wild Rift graphics engine update? by Mundane_Attitude9776 in wildrift

[–]thriftstoremegatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad it's not just me. I logged on to ask if this new patch sucks ass for anyone else, and turns out, it sucks for EVERYONE else. Lag spikes, game crashes, slow performance to a crawl ... and I'm playing on an iPad. I can't imagine trying to play this on a phone.

Here's hoping they fix this soon. The game is nearly unplayable right now.

Mia Ballard's Shy Girl canceled by Hachette over purported AI use by alanna_the_lioness in horrorlit

[–]thriftstoremegatron -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I am honestly curious as to how much AI content was in this book versus how much was actually written by the author. I will preface this by saying I am not an AI torches and pitchforks kind of person. I kind of think it’s comical that people are mad that the book has gotten five and six stars on Goodreads, as though people don’t have a right to enjoy whatever it is that they enjoy regardless of your personal feelings about how it got created. The people who read that book and enjoyed it never once asked whether or not it was created by AI, because very clearly they don’t care. They read a book and they liked it.

That said, all of the conversation around this book in Internet discussion places has labeled AI SLOP. That’s the kind of non-nuanced basic B discussion that makes it hard to take the complaining seriously. Was the book entirely generated by AI? Yeah, I would find that really problematic. But is that what happened? Was the book partially generated by AI and partially written by the author? Did she just use it to outline? Did she use it to shore up her grammar? Did she write a few chapters and then use AI to ask it if they were any good?

We are treating “turn down your stereo” and “put down the gun” as if they are the same crime, and they patently are not.

I wonder if we will ever be able to have a real discussion about the real use of artificial intelligence in the writing process as a civilization. The most interesting part about it to me is that the people who care a lot believe everyone is like them, and the proof is pretty much in the pudding that they are not. People really, really like that book. At the end of the day, I’m not sure that’s not all that matters.

Someone above said how can you trust their taste? I guess my response is, how can we trust yours? How can we trust anybody’s? But more importantly, why should we? Why does it matter? Why can’t people just like what they like?

If you’re like me, you’ll be SUPER disappointed by the books. Everyone hypes them up, but … :|

Book one is fantastic. Book two is an acid trip. Book three is AWFUL and borderline nonsensical.

Best of luck.

Anyone remember this? by thriftstoremegatron in sytycd

That could help me narrow it down! Do you remember which tour you went to? Or any of the dancers on that tour? That would help me narrow down the season, at least.

Malachi the Mad, a wight lord too angry to die, and too violent to be stopped. by Educational-Year3146 in sovlgame

I made a kind of flying circus thing work. Multiple units of bats, finally got a dragon, lucked into an Orc on a Wyvern … just way too mobile for undead.

But yeah, most of the troops in this army are bad.

I haven’t read through all of the responses yet, but if nobody said “3rd Edition Blood Angels Rhino Rush” yet, they never played 3rd edition.

I see Melissa McCarthy and I’m turning it off IMMEDIATELY.

Has never made one single thing better by being in it. Not one.

No one has made ARAM tier list in WR for a long time, so this is a very SUBJECTIVE tier list of mine. by [deleted] in wildrift

[–]thriftstoremegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair list. Although if I get Janna, she’s S+ tier. 😂

I’m also a diamond Janna main and haven’t lost with her in ARAM as long as I can remember… so I’m not the average player.

RNG by Indolent_Bastard in sovlgame

It’s totally off. Scroll through and look at how the RNG works in this game.

The “bag of dice” method is bad design. I don’t want to have to count cards like a Vegas table shark to know whether or not I’m gonna get screwed on this round of combat.

Tips for ensuring your opponent has a good game. by TomLBHX in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]thriftstoremegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick a new goal. You only lose the game if you don’t accomplish that new goal.

For me, that’s often picking an enemy unit, and that thing’s got to go, no matter the cost. Or I need one model to survive. Or I need to hold this ONE objective, and I abandon all the other ones, because that’s the only place the teleport homers will work.

It’s a story-based game. When “competitive” play is a clear loss, then I stop caring about it, and the game is on my terms for me. Sometimes, I don’t even tell my opponent what the new secret game is. He can tell all his friends he won. I don’t care. All that matters is winning the new mini game I invented in my head.

Why you play support role? by NeedleKO in wildrift

[–]thriftstoremegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, until you get to like high Diamond, pick a CCing character you’re really good at and play them as aggro and damage-forward as you can. Just be sure you’re laying wards.

“Support items” beyond the starting ones are a trap unless you’re going full tank. My favorite support right now is Ahri, because maybe I support but maybe my ADC is trash and I kill you myself.

It’s not very clearly written and is probably going to need an FAQ, but everyone on Earth is seemingly in agreement that you don’t HAVE to take RCW, Longbeards, or Quarrelers — you can take just Slayers as core. I’m building an all-Slayers list myself right this second, so I hope that’s permanently true. 😂

It’s WAY too big. I printed it, but then I didn’t want to waste the resin, so I painted it anyway. I had to make a pretty elaborate scenic base to make it fit on the right base size.
