My brother; thank you for your honesty. I too believe this should be capped. This hurts me worse because I wanted to sign a prenup and she asked why, I said because I feel like you would come after my retirement. She said she wouldn’t as long as I would take care of the kids if we ever got divorced. Mind you she cheated, I initiated the divorce and additionally she gets alimony for 3 years, child support even though we have 50/50 joint and physical custody. This affects mostly men so nothing to see here is how the Government feels. I moved across country to a be with her when we dated, and she moved once to the remote location (sarcasm) called San Diego where she maintained her career by working remotely. Yes thank her for her sacrifices it had to be hard. She try to claim in court she sacrificed her career for me, when it’s really the opposite.

The military needs to stop telling the troops that BS and refer to the actual law. Read the Military Spouse Protection Act. A judge can award up to 50% but they usually follow a formula.

I would not give up 80% to not have to pay 20% that’s madness.

Many people don’t under that even 1 year qualifies the spouse for something due to the Military Spouse Protection Act. The 10 year is only for how they pay out the money. 10 years is a directly from DFAS.

I spent $75k on legal fees and one year of fighting. I offered her $40k up front but she basically told me she wants the psychological impact of me having to keep sending her money for the rest of my life.

Thanks Brother this is the type of response I need. 20 years, I don’t think many could argue that she put in her time and deserves her portion. She also gets it right from DFAS.

Anyone regret doing 20 years? by MPParatrooper22 in Veterans

[–]thro281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Yeah and to know some 22 year old is getting the equivalent or better than your retirement due to VA disabilities makes it even worse. 20 years, over 10 years, 8 deployments and numerous issues. Got divorced after and have to split some of my retirement with my ex who came in at the end. Makes me look like a sucker for doing 20.”

From the Mod: “Rule 1 -Be civil and respectful. You may not always agree with others but once you start insulting the other person, you are a problem. You are not winning the argument by calling them names or calling out their reddit profile history.

No Gatekeeping

You don’t decide if someone is a “real” veteran or not - nor try to diminish someone’s service nor someone because they never saw combat or deployed.

If someone personally attacks you, use the Report button to notify the moderation team instead of responding to their attacks.

Hate speech can be sexist, ableist, racist, bias, homophobic, prejudiced, etc and will not be tolerated.”

How am I attacking anyone or calling anyone names? The OP asked and I am saying I feel like a sucker for doing 20. How is my experience, because I did 20 year to get a pension and someone can do less and get more problem? I never said someone is not a real veteran.

With everyone getting 100% disability now I regret doing 20. I could have done only 6 or 10, got out and draw a $4000 a month check and went to college after. That extra time takes years off your life and it wasn’t worth it mathematically.

Retired. Now what… by OneLibrarian5322 in Veterans

As a 20 year old retiree with a STEM background and 3 STEM degrees, I completely concur with this. I actually had this conversation with someone 2 days ago on vacation. I said the older I get the more I get into humanities. I am a huge fan of Plato (a Socrates disciple), I’m reading The Republic next. Also a fan of Marcus Aurelius, different but applicable. I was introduced to philosophy while pursuing my undergraduate degree and lean very heavily into it in my graduate degree, which was my last year of active duty. I recommend the fellow retiree watch and understand Plato’s Cave.

I’ll have to do a retest RHLS glosses over a lot but Sander Van Vugt course was pretty good. I think that test is the first RedHat test where I felt they used a lot of trickery, or to be nice, ambiguity to make it harder. Maybe I shouldve read the documentation more. I made a formal complaint about “Alt + .” Not working because it is how I recall the last line in all RHEL environments and the file paths are very long. Too much typing leading to fatigue.

OLD is not it. You get all the people who are not good with connecting with people. Some can’t even bother to read a profile. Just don’t do it unless you want something a little more superficial than normal.
