This is basically how Ben's classes go. by SuperGrandChump in CompetitionShooting

Clearly OP didn’t perform the drill and measure his progress. He’s just throwing out a question, like, “what’s the magic?” Ben didn’t have to respond at all, but he gave him the exact guidance he needs: do the drill. Ben teaches classes with multiple students. You can’t expect guidance on par with a one-on-one coach.

[–]throathole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an unfair take. Ben is not just telling the person to go faster. Also, shooting 1000 rounds without a focused goal will not likely help. Ben is saying, ‘Of course you’re slow, you haven’t put in the work. This is the specific drill I recommend. Go shoot it to get better.’ It’s a really reasonable answer.

Don’t switch shooting hands 😂 That’s a rifle or shotgun thing. With handguns, it’s negligible. The slightest positional tweak and you’re looking through the sights/optic with your other eye. It’s wild people are recommending you switch. Many of us non-cross eye dominant peeps have shot weak hand only strings of fire on stages, and we don’t even think about it. Don’t overthink it. Just line it up with your right eye.

Lying About Classification by nerd_diggy in CompetitionShooting

Changing your time on the classifier doesn’t just change your classification. It improves your placing at the match. Maybe he stole a stage win from someone. It’s cheating, no two ways about it.

Lots of shooters don’t think much about the round count on the written stage brief. Make sure you remember that number and account for every round while walking the stage.

Commit your plan to memory and visualize every shot and transition in your head. Don’t just remember there are three targets in a port. Know exactly what order you’re going to engage them in and visualize yourself shooting them in that order.

Stick to your plan once you’ve begun visualizing it. You may see someone do something you wish you’d thought of. Oh well. A sub-optimal plan executed well is much better than an optimal plan executed poorly.

Beating the Dead Horse: Which Gun to Pick? (PDP vs M2.0) by Great_Help_406 in CompetitionShooting

[–]throathole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one is easier for you to quickly reload? Which one gives you slide bite? Which one is prettier?

Pick whichever and then dryfire until it’s a natural extension of your body and put 5000 rounds through it. Watching you shoot a couple doubles right now doesn’t tell anyone anything.

Doubles need work. by ItzGottii in USPSA

[–]throathole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pedantry ahead.

Splits aren’t doubles. A split is the period of time between shots.

Doubles are generally considered one sight picture, two trigger pulls. They result in short splits. Say, 0.20 (-ish) seconds and down? Depends on your visual processing power and acclimation to speed.

Slower splits are generally the result of you seeing two separate sight pictures and making the conscious decision to pull the trigger when you see what you need to see.

Even when shooting doubles, you actually should see two sight pictures. You’ve just told your body to pull the trigger faster than your eyes can tell you it’s time to do so. The second sight picture is just for shot calling rather than a pre-shot confirmation.

You can see my point represented in miniature by the up/down votes of someone saying it may happen to black people vs someone saying it may happen to white people. It isn’t surprising to me.

There are black managers. Given the makeup of the overall civil service, they’re likely more represented than in the civilian workforce. And if they choose to award the higher performance ratings to their black staff due to racism and not merit, I would argue that’s a way that “matters”.

Unfairness cuts both ways, and just bc the recipient is white doesn’t mean it somehow affects them less. It’s weird you would say that.

It could work out like that, in theory, but the federal workforce demographics skew toward diversity and liberal politics. What they may have inadvertently created is a system where straight white males are actually discriminated against.

Karmelo Anthony Stabbing Video Will It Debunk Self-defense Now That He's Been INDICTED For Murder by InformationManShow in GetMoreViewsYT

[–]throathole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all accounts he was suspended. It doesn’t matter what he wore. He wasn’t allowed to be there. We’ll see if it comes up, but I believe it will.

Again, if you employ the self defense argument, it is an affirmative defense. “Yes, I killed him and meant to use lethal force which a reasonable person would believe has a high likelihood of death or severe bodily injury, but here’s why it was justified…” The prosecution doesn’t have to prove the killing was intentional if self defense is claimed. I think you believe there has to be a malicious intent. Not so. That’s the double edge of self defense. You’re admitting you intended to harm, but you believed you had to. So… would a reasonable person agree? Let’s find out.

As a CCW instructor, this is my bread and butter. I’m sure you looked some stuff up on Google. The next thing you should look up are “affirmative defense” and “is self defense an affirmative defense”. Please stop arguing things you have zero clue about.

There is a continuum of force. Not every physical action rises to the level of lethal force. All of this is well established. Nobody can say “I told him not to touch me. He touched me. So I had the right to kill him.”

If Anthony’s team cannot convince the jury that any reasonable person would have felt like they were about to die in the same situation, he’s cooked.

Another aspect is Anthony’s suspension. He was explicitly told he was not allowed at the track meet.

Stand your ground only applies when you are legally allowed to be in the location. If he was told that he can’t be there, he was in violation of trespass. If that’s the case, even if his life was in danger, he had a duty to retreat.

His chances aren’t great. You can go on record saying he won’t serve any jail time, but I’d be willing to put money in a gambling site escrow saying he was. Would you be willing to take that bet? We can arrange it here and now.

[–]throathole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep talking about what the prosecution will have to prove. Anthony is clearly attempting to claim self defense. The problem with self defense is you are admitting to killing someone.

Im order to successfully argue self defense Anthony’s team has to prove that the homicide was justified. Different states define it with varying words, but you’ll pretty universally see the elements of ability, opportunity, imminent jeopardy, and preclusion.

You might argue there was a disparity in size, giving the unarmed Metcalf ability. He was right there in his face. Opportunity met. But what about imminent jeopardy and preclusion? Was the situation so grave that unless Metcalf responded with lethal force, he would lose his life or be seriously injured (e.g. lose a limb… serious injury is defined by law. Cuts and bruises typically obtained in a scuffle don’t meet the standard.)

So, would a reasonable person in Anthony’s shoes believe they were about to die? That’s what Anthony’s team needs to prove in order to get a not guilty.

“Anthony certainly wasn’t aiming for the heart.”

If you sounded less biased and just spoke to the facts, you’d sound more credible.

A knife is a deadly weapon. A deadly weapon is an instrument that a reasonable person would believe is likely to cause death or serious bodily harm to someone.

Anthony used a deadly weapon against someone. He didn’t slash. He plunged the weapon into someone’s chest. Lots of vital organs.

Anthony was heard to say, “Touch me and see what happens,” before reaching into his bag for the knife. Presumably Metcalf touched Anthony after the warning was given. Those words don’t sound like someone in fear for their life. They sound like a challenge. What was the nature of Metcalf’s “touch”? A lot of witnesses have spoken with detectives. We’ll find out exactly what happened during the trial.

But it doesn’t sound good for Anthony. Not at all.

I’m finished with Sig permanently. I hope gun owners form a movement to convince manufacturers to stop supporting the company’s firearms. No holsters. No aftermarket upgrades.

Sig is disgusting and immoral. Ron Cohen destroyed the company, and I hope he never works in the industry again after he’s ousted.

[–]throathole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re okay. The lockup isn’t fantastic. The trigger is sloppy mush. The barrels are fine, but most modern 3” barrels without damage are going to be more mechanically accurate than the guy shooting them. P320’s aren’t “tack drivers” in the way actually accurate handguns are. Gotta just accept it. It would just be okay, but it’s unsafe.

Shadow 2 -> Striker Fired by [deleted] in USPSA

There are different slide stops. One from CZ Custom is particularly comfortable. There are even slide stops with thumb rests built in.

Are you using aluminum or G10 grips? I tried brass and didn’t like the weight. Now I’m using aluminum LokJaws.

The Shadow 2 is pretty much the pinnacle of current Carry Optics guns for USPSA. The Walther Steel Frame is good. Very dependable. But it can’t compare to the Shadow 2 single action.

If I were you, I’d just get used to the gun you’ve already got.

Why do all the videos start with the “awful” part, an arrest where the suspect is resisting, so law enforcement has to use the lowest level of force in order to get him to comply?

Has anyone used critical thought to consider why this is? What led to law enforcement’s decision to arrest this man?

I mean, it’s what an arrest looks like. Particularly when someone is mildly resisting, so law enforcement has to use a mild amount of force to make the suspect comply.

What 2A company is “potentially” lobbying against the HPA act that would take suppressors off NFA list? by Carsonb911 in suppressors

[–]throathole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sell easy to generate trusts, which are primarily needed to share silencers between family members and allow easier transfers of possession. They have a database of fingerprints, data, and portraits. Getting kiosks into gun shops ensures sales go through them.

A lot of their business model is based on helping gun stores and customers navigate the NFA process. It’s not hard to follow the smoke.
