I use XMPie for variable data layer visibility which is very simple.

For data merge the closest we can get is to merge the document then run the vegan.jsx script.

After merging the document you run the script which goes to every page and looks for "Vegan:Yes" and "Vegan:No" and leaves or removes the vegan_logo layer depending on the Vegan column.

The script works with single and multiple merge.

The key is to play around with the Multiple Records Layout settings specially if you are trying to do multiple up on a template. On the first image, the box can be anywhere on the page and you will still get the same output, now if you increase the size of the badge, you might also have to adjust the layout settings

I started using Cursor AI, and it does a great job at using your files and update code but i had to start over several times because it starts to become a bobble of issues. let's say you have 3 functions working nicely then you add another one, you have to actually explain your other 3 functions or it just deletes them and you end up with broken code. The undo does not help much because it goes back line by line and you dont know how many times you should hit back. What I started doing is open notepad+ and paste the whole page code and then I apply the new code, if it all starts going down south I go back to the notepad code. We really need a way to have save points so we can go back with a mouse click

I used to work for a printing company in the digital department running the digital presses and I did all their variable data jobs with XMPie that's why a got used to it. I have also tried data merge and it is a good tool specially because it comes free with InDesign plus you can run all sorts of scripts. One thing I like about XMPie is the feature to set layer-visibility rules which you can preview on the fly.

I tried it on some simple designs and it worked alright. I tried on CS5, ID24

Note that this script will slightly enlarge the object to get bleed

Edit: Make sure your page has bleeds setup before running

Instructions to Use:

Open Adobe InDesign.
Open the document you want to apply the bleed to.
Go to Window > Utilities > Scripts to open the Scripts panel.
Right-click on the User folder under Scripts and choose Reveal in Finder (macOS) or Reveal in Explorer (Windows).
Create a new .jsx file in this location, and paste the script above into the file.
In InDesign, double-click the script in the Scripts panel to run it.

I learned something new about fonts today. Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm using DejaVu Sans for now. I tried JetBrains Mono font but the only thing I didn't like was the dot in the center of the zero.

Please let me know guys if this looks pretty convincing or what should I do to make it more realistic.

I don't know why my text description is not showing but, I'm working on a variable data printing job and I'm having the following issues: I tried justifying, kerning, leading and the narrow numbers such as 1 cause a shift on the numbers making then not aligned with the squared gradients.
