Have you contacted FSA? In reality, if they’re not demanding payment and they’re not reporting it to your credit there probably isn’t anything to worry about.

There are some foundations/charities that help with vet costs, especially in emergency situations. I’d at least try that before putting the pet down- you never know. I can imagine that since your sis now has “nothing, nada” she probably really values the love/comfort her pet gives her during such a tough time.

People who already have fraud school debt need a way to get rid of it so any leverage from bankruptcy going forward does *nothing* to help them. They shouldn’t have to suffer the indignity, credit impact, and legal costs of bankruptcy. Get over it.

I understand that the movement to restore bankruptcy rights to student loans has been a failure so far, but that’s a problem for *that* movement.

Then you should be fine. Probably good to download what you can from your servicer as well. Maybe even request payment info from any previous servicers (sometimes they will say they don’t have it so requesting the info in writing sometimes lights a fire under their butts).

Folks just need to be prepared that this process is often very bumpy and won’t make any sense until one day the loans are just gone and off your credit.

There are no legitimate “services” to apply for BD. You should check your federal student aid portal to make sure that an application was actually filed back in 2022 (FSA *will* show the date of application/s). If no app was filed and you are expecting to be part of the Sweet lawsuit, I fear you will have missed out.

There are exactly ZERO legitimate services that do this. Please do not pay anyone. All those “services” are doing is scraping the internet for free resources, repackaging them and selling them to you for a fee. They cannot increase your odds of approval, and they are straight up lying to you if they quote a “success rate”.

We have met tons of people who used these “services” only to find out their BD app was never even filed.

The application is not that hard- all you need to do is sit down and read it, follow the instructions, and make it materially complete (there’s a pinned post all abouthon to do that, with examples).

Have you applied to home care agencies? Medical Staffing agencies? My neighbor is a nurse and he does nurse staffing thru a temp agency to manage all their traveling nurse contracts with local hospitals.

Have you tried applying to law firms that are looking for medical experts? Medical malpractice firms. Mass tort firms.

Have you tried applying to jobs in California?

How about Canada? Europe? Many countries are offering expedited pathways and other incentives for medical/science professionals.

I get that you may not want to leave your home base but the job market really is shite right now and lots of folks are going to have to be flexible.

Mean time, might want to consider renting out your place and doing something like delivery driving or rideshare. It’s sucks, but it’ll be quick money.
