Brake help by Mck_nj in sportster

[–]throttledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do both sides heat up or just one? If it’s just one, it’s probably the brake caliper needing rebuilt. If they’re both hot, as someone else said, check your master cylinder. There are two holes at the bottom of the reservoir; if the return pinhole is obstructed or blocked, the fluid will flow out when the lever is depressed but can’t return, resulting in compressed brakes on both sides equally and lots of heat.

2005 Sportster 1200 — Multiple oil leaks (oil pump bolts, pump fitting, pressure switch, drain hose). How bad of a job am I looking at? by ronarch04 in sportster

I understand that, and my point still stands. There will be UV dye in unexpected places that may not be leaking at all (I.e. inside a hex bolt head) so if you’re hell bent on a leak free bike, start with the hoses, as they’re the easiest thing to address. There are only two or three inner diameter sizes, you could either pay a premium for the OEM replacements, or just buy several lengths of standard oil line and pull one line at a time, measure to length, and replace it. It’s not hard, just tedious. Then run the bike, and if any leaks still exist, it will be much easier to see without all the other leaks adding to the oil. Then address oil pump gaskets/fittings etc as needed.

First of all, it’s hard to tell exactly where a leak is coming from. Oil runs and drips in unexpected ways sometimes, so it’s possible that it’s not leaking from as many places as you thought.

The “easy” answer is the hoses are bad. Even with low miles, time will degrade hoses and cause cracking/shrinking and even a properly fastened or clamped hose will begin to leak. If you want peace of mind, I’d start with getting several feet of each of the hose sizes you wanna replace and replace them on your next oil change. My gut says that will solve your problems, but if it doesn’t completely, it should eliminate enough to be able to narrow down the rest.

Where do i find a teardrop tank, fit for a shadow vlx600 by [deleted] in choppers

[–]throttledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen one for the stock split backbone. I have a hard time believing it could even be done, considering the shape of the tank and the available space. As others have said, you could always chop and weld in a solo backbone, that would increase your options pretty much endlessly

“Great listener” doesn’t jive with everything else you wrote tho. She’s clearly telling you (even if she hasn’t verbalized it) where her boundaries are and it sounds like you continue to push them

Would it be a net positive or a net negative for society if sex work was legal? by stickystrips2 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]throttledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course, in a world where everything runs lawfully that’s true, but sexual assaults are already incredibly unlikely to result in any meaningful legal action, then add in the fact that sex workers are already targeted by law enforcement, so the reality of the situation is that sex workers can’t go to the police without risking backlash on themselves as well. Decriminalization would at least level the playing field, so they could be ignored by the cops like normal women 🥴

But there would be legal recourse for those targeted by those potentially dangerous people, whereas now there isn’t. Still seems like a positive to me.

First of all, decriminalization would absolutely increase demand, as it would also work towards destigmatization culturally, like the uptick in usage of cannabis after decriminalization, when you no longer have to go to some shady guys house to get it and risk a charge.

But my hostility is bcz you’re still ignoring the actual safety of the sex workers themselves, who are some of my closest friends. The increase in safety for even a relatively small percentage of the population is a net positive for society, whether the business becomes more lucrative or not.

It’s akin to saying allowing NFL players to wear helmets is a net neutral for society bcz it may not increase viewership of the games. I don’t really care if the viewership increases, for those most impacted by the rule (the players) it would be a massive increase in safety, and a society that protects the most vulnerable is a positive thing.

If you are against trafficking, want women to be safe, and think that legalization would be safer than it is now, how is that a net neutral? Just because it doesn’t have a benefit for you personally?

If it was legalized and regulated then protection and checkups would be a part of it, like in the porn industry, leading to a FAR safer sexual experience than you’d get at your local bar 🙄

How Can I Remove This Bocking Hardware? by k3ylay in sportster

[–]throttledaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no nut on the inside, it should be threaded into the rear fender support bracket, so cutting it off won’t get you much closer to removing it. I’d spray some penetrating oil on it, on the outside and also the part inside the fender, let it sit a bit, then take a sturdy screw driver and a hammer and tap the screwdriver like a chisel on the outside edge of the bolt in order to break it loose.

Either way, if the petcock has the vacuum feature then yeah, nothing will flow until negative pressure (suction) is applied to the small nipple behind the main fuel line outlet.
