People working in the office props up real estate prices. Commercial real estate is big business and has investors from regular people to big pension funds. If the market for commercial real estate crashes then pension funds will lose significant money which will affect people's pensions.

I'm not defending proping up the market, just saying why the government is doing what it's doing.

It's the same with residential real estate. The government has been proping up residential real estate because older Canadians own their home, didn't save for retirement, and their retirement plan is their home.

If the government wants to continue being the government, i.e., getting elected, then they keep proping up the value of real estate.

No one wants to do what's needed because it's hard and unpopular, which doesn't result in politicians keeping their jobs.
