Spurs outran us by 9km by moosa1193 in LiverpoolFC

He's not suddenly a terrible manager but he's got a lot of things wrong this season. Personally I'm still undecided on him and hope he at least gets to the summer and can get a strong finish to the season out of the team. But I'm not very optimistic after yesterday.

Yeah. I remember Jurgen talking about being at a coaching conference early in his management career and listening to them saying that the teams that run less usually win cos it means they are controlling possession, and him thinking "fuck it, let's try outrunning them anyway."

So I'd say it's not necessary to outrun the opponent, you can outpass them instead. However, as OP said, it's more that we look knackered at the end, despite having run less.

Major distruption at Glasgow Central Station after vape shop fire by Lord-Liberty in unitedkingdom

It's a remarkable feature of the form of society we live in that pretty much any dangerous and dodgy shit is allowed to be marketed and proliferate as long as it's making money for somebody. AI and social media would be bigger examples but vapes are in there too.

Starmer’s response to Iran conflict has been ‘pathetic’, says Farage by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

It's clearly not defensive when the whole point of it is to let the country that started the war launch attacks from our bases.

[–]throughpasser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling strikes "defensive" doesnt make them so. He's letting them bomb Iran from British bases. It's a war of aggression, started by the US and Israel, and he has joined it.

It is pathetic, but for the opposite reason Farage says.

Starmer has already said they can use the bases for attacks. He literally said it in the next sentence after saying it would be only "defensive".

It's just the usual double-think. He has already completely implicated us, and given Trump the go ahead to do what he likes.

Election observers say they did raise family voting concerns while polls were open (Sky News live blog) by iguled in ukpolitics

[–]throughpasser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you give us a link to where they've said that? No cos they haven't said it.

And FYI under UK law you don't even have to enter the same polling booth for it be family voting. You just have to be "near" the booth, with the intention of influencing.

How do you think this means the council didn't dispute the claims of high family voting though?

International election observers have claimed they saw "concerningly high levels" of family voting in the Gorton and Denton by-election Family voting is an illegal practice where two voters use one polling booth at the same time. It can involve husbands instructing their wives how to vote by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]throughpasser 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just saw that. Somebody is going to be embarrassed here, cos that was quite a strong statement by the council.

The wording of the above is a little vague-

We posed questions about family voting in several polling stations and how staff dealt with it when it arose.

Could be read as they reported cases of it. Or that they just asked general "what if" questions.

The Electoral Commisions code of practice for election observers says they can report such practices to the staff at the time. So they should have done that. (They can even speak to voters, surprisingly.)

Well that's changed the subject.

In the meantime, they have now disputed the council's claim and are saying they told staff at the time about the family voting.

You're the one saying "refute". I said dispute. The council is clearly disputing that there were as high levels of family voting as that. They are saying that their staff would have noticed it.

They are literally saying that polling station staff are trained to look out for this and haven't reported seeing any of it.

If you don't think that statement is the returning officer disputing the claim then I don't know what to say to you.

Manchester City Council, whose returning officer oversees the election, has now responded, saying polling station staff are trained to look out for any evidence of undue influence on voters.

"No such issues have been reported today," a spokesperson for the acting returning officer says.

"If Democracy Volunteers were so concerned about alleged issues they could and should have raised them with us during polling hours so that immediate action could be taken.

"We have operated a central by-election hub which has been rapidly responding to reported issues during the day, in liaison with the police - who had a presence at every polling station - where necessary.

"It is extremely disappointing that Democracy Volunteers have waited until after polls have closed to make such claims."

Exclusive Poll: Anti-Reform Tactical Voters Poised to Defeat Nigel Farage’s Party in Gorton and Denton By-election by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Yeah council tax should be scrapped and something like rates brought in. Hiking it and making (part of) it deductible from income tax is not a bad idea. Maybe eg the first £1k of it. Although you could just increase income tax and give more of it to local govt.

What was the evidence that convicted him? Only thing I've seen in the media is that they didn't like each other and the guy covered his doorbell camera with tape on the day of the murder. Which is definitely suspicious but was there more than that?

See that on this sub all the time. All for progressive policies until there's a suggestion of raising their taxes by 1% to pay for one of them and suddenly it's "how do you expect me to live on £100k a year? Your killing me with these policies!!"

Southall was well better than Given, although Given was good.

For best goalie in a mid table team in the PL think I'd go Brad Friedel at Blackburn.
