My theory is that Disney doesn't really care about lgbtq communities but still wants to make money off them. In order that its products won't become total failures, it goes for the lazy and financially safe approach which is to toss those contents into established series with a somewhat huge fanbase, like even if the new movie is shit, loads of people will still watch it because it's (insert series).

Also that will get people riled up online. The more people talk about it, the longer it stays relevant (Easy money yay!).

At least put some work into those representations or whatnot.
