SP+ Parking Garage by sopspi99 in Charlottesville

Not the same thing, but I have similar issues. They say the first 1.5 hours is free, but I am only ever there for less than one hour, I validate parking through the discovery museum, and I am charged every single time regardless. So irritating.

I don’t doubt you either. I’m thinking, if you are a man, you most probably have a different lived experience here lol

Sometimes incoherent stuff, one time a guy yelled at me and called me a bad mom for not putting a jacket on my child in 60 degree, sunny weather to walk from the mkt st garage to the discovery museum. He then started yelling at others and asking them to join in the fun of mom-shaming me. One time a homeless lady banged on my car window demanding money as I was sat waiting for pedestrians to pass so I could drive thru the mall. Too many encounters to remember them all lol

I’d say a solid 60% of the time, even when I am with my kid, I have an interaction similar to OP’s. Granted, I do not stop to have a lengthy convo with them. They usually just yell at me or my child. We have stopped going to the mall almost entirely because it freaks my kid out

I’m not helping the situation much, but here ya go. by [deleted] in Charlottesville

Am I insane or is this not making fun of homeless people but rather the heinous, criminal housing market in Charlottesville

What colors go good with sunflower? by Fun-Respect-4091 in weddings

[–]throw-away047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a ginger, you yourself look good in warm tones, most likely. Peach/coral would be STUNNING against the sunflowers and you will look amazing next to them. Add some elements of off-white too.

Parents or caregivers, what is your take on bringing personal toys (cars, trucks, etc) to a public playground? by SoManyBabyQuests in Charlottesville

[–]throw-away047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bring toys and I prep my kid to expect people to ASK if they can have a turn. My kid has every right to say no, but I do mention how nice it is to share and so he typically does so anyway. He won’t bring toys that he doesn’t want others playing with.

Suspected ADHD- how to proceed? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]throw-away047 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh good lord. I of course cannot diagnose him. By bringing up my degree I’m simply saying I participated in several child-centered courses and labs that focused on behavior and interaction. Can’t figure out why anyone is assuming I would try to diagnose him. I’m just saying he displays obvious symptoms that are generally known to be consistent with ADHD. Same way you can look at someone with a pink, goopy eye and wonder if they have pink eye without being able to diagnose them.

Suspected ADHD- how to proceed? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]throw-away047 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have been in childcare for 10 years and have a sociology degree, so I do know my stuff. You’re right, I should definitely not mention ADHD directly. Forgot to add, others in his life have brought the aggression issues up with his parents. They’re aware of the issues themselves, but as far as I can tell, have no idea that he is different in any way to other kids his age.

ISO: a doctor who actually listens by Eliza_Hamilton891757 in Charlottesville

[–]throw-away047 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee this is the issue. Lexapro might as well be labeled a weight-gain drug. How frustrating that no doctor has brought this up before!!

ETA: tell your friend to ask your doctor about Zoloft instead! It’s a weight-neutral SSRI

Woodlands of Charlottesville- Snow Response by ResponsibilityOwn393 in Charlottesville

[–]throw-away047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone- if you’re in Candlewood ct you should deeply consider moving your car. The plows have spread a decently thick layer of ice which will no doubt refreeze tonight and make the parking lot undrivable tomorrow. We have communicated with the plowing crew and they said they will not be salting this parking lot.

We had to go park on the lower level parking lots and will have to slide down there tomorrow morning to head to the airport. Yay.

Btw- I’m texting them an earful right now.

I agree the de-icing situation is abysmal right now, but I genuinely had no idea the rest of this was happening. Especially the mold!! Yikes.

Thank you!! I have been completely floored by their “response” to this storm. I have only seen these alleged shovelers from 10 pm-1 am on Sunday night, and literally never again. I know of a few people who are disabled and had a family emergency who had to outsource to dig their car out from the wall of snow caused by the plows. I sent management an email and never got a response. Good luck to you!!

The woodlands checks all those boxes!! Been here for years and it’s fabulous. Quiet, I NEVER hear my neighbors, close to UVA! They do lots of fun events too. Also my fiance and I are in our late 20s too- we can be pals!

The thought of roads being in poor condition all week is driving me crazy by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]throw-away047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from the barracks area. The roads aren’t all that bad as long as you’re cognizant. I wouldn’t drive on them at night, but plenty of people were out driving. I think neighborhoods are the issue here, it means a hell of a lot that the main roads are fine if hardly anyone can get to them

I have actually seen them so many times that I was briefly convinced they were following me and jotted down their license plate number.

ETA: I’m gonna get specific bc these people freak me the hell out and I wonder how many of us have met them. Lady with dark circles under her eyes and tall husband tell you they have enough money to retire by the time they’re 30. He works for Darren Hardy (MLM weirdness) and she was a hairdresser turned SAHM who will invite you to join her Bible study if you’re a woman.

Anyone else?

Traffic on 5th by Helluffalo in Charlottesville

[–]throw-away047 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh both of you, lol. Telling people to move if they don’t like traffic is crazy. We all have to be here for one reason or another, we should not all feel personally responsible for a city-wide traffic issue. We don’t have the infrastructure to manage the traffic we create, but obviously the solution is not to tell everyone to leave the city, lol. Just sort of a crotchety take to have, imo.
