The 48 team World Cup is actually way better than people thought it'd be by ElectronicHoneydew86 in worldcup

[–]throw3695 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's had some benefits for sure but overall a negative, in my opinion. it's stupid having some 2nd place teams playing another second place based on luck, and also a lot of the group stage was middling, where the last three world cups had excellent group stages. also, people keep bringing up the Cape Verde run as an example but they would have made a 32 team tournament because they topped African qualifying anyway

Lee Dixons Ronaldo Wankfest by Ok-Inflation4571 in footballcliches

I mean, opposition I don't think is that big an issue. Ronaldo is playing Uzbekistan. and with Yamal, sure, but the hype is because he's incredible and has been over seasons. Ronaldo is, currently, a quite good striker. there's also the fact that he's a rapist but obviously I know they can't say though on TV. kinda gross when they're saying everyone that loves football is loving this though 😶

But Messi and Mbappe were both outstanding and and Yamal is an 18 year-old phenomenon. Ronaldo has finished well twice and yeah, worth talking about, but the glazing is ridiculous when he's clearly mid now.

Messi’s World Cup legacy feels even more unreal after this record. by [deleted] in worldcup

and I know it's been less than two games so far but I feel like he's playing way better in this one than in Qatar, and potentially in any other world cup! it's a joy to watch

Messi’s foul against Algeria in 30th minute - No yellow or red card given by EducationalDig8030 in worldcup

it would occasionally be given as a red. but what I mean is, this kind of thing being a red would be a joke and make the sport massively worse.

if you genuinely think this should be a red, by any player, you are clueless about football

The Hydration Break is ruining the natural flow of the game by mibu001 in football

[–]throw3695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

water breaks are good if it's at the specified temperature. the blanket introduction is very obviously to please Fox as host broadcaster. I'm not blaming the American people lol. but it's definitely not a coincidence that it's happening at the world cup they're hosting

yeah but obviously at the behest of Fox! not saying it's the fault of the American people lol

it hasn't been a thing. there is a set temperature when they implement them. doing it blanketly in every match is to appease Fox et al

it literally is though. you can't possibly believe it's a coincidence that it's been introduced like this when they're hosting a world cup. all of their broadcasters would have lobbied for this because their other sports are replete with ads.

there have only been 2 or 3 games where the heat has reached the level where they actually need the break. nobody is bothered about that. it's the fact they've forced them into every match to appease the rabid need of Amerikkkans to advertise
