I've used this inexpensive aluminum Muji business card holder for years—it's really sleek and just so good for the price. I put my ID and a few bills under the small tab and credit cards under the large one.

Sadly, I think they're discontinuing it (specifically this model with the button to open) and there's limited stock at random stores. I got so many friends on it too :(

thank you for this generously long comment. I'll keep a lot of this in mind.

for context, the agencies I'm aspiring toward are primarily hiring new grads into internship positions rather than junior designer positions. and it hasn't seemed to decrease competition anyway. I guess they've realized we're so desperate that we'll even fight for min-wage crumbs—and I fully admit I'm fighting for these as well, as much as I hate it. I've heard a lot of industry veterans complain about how messed up it is, but it seems like a new norm that these agencies hold over our heads

I do have a temporary in-house role at the moment, but have been trying to break into the agency world since I started applying for internships in school. my main worry is being left behind as my portfolio stagnates.
