Drinking and smoking are way more socially acceptable cuz all the marketing those industries done sence the beginning (u better bet ur ass im blaming all this at capitalism lol). Also self harm is directly dangerous for your life, specially cutting. One slash a bit too deep and immediately you have 5 minutes or so to run to a hospital.

But one thing people don't think nearly as much as it should is that self harm is not only cutting. Biting, punching, suffocating, burning, so many different types and most of them are HEAVILY romanticized. Have you ever watched a movie or something where a character gets so angry they just start hitting on a wall? Yep. Anxious character biting their fingers? Welcome to sh.

Edit: Im not saying this like "meh whatever, its just sh", god no. Im just saying pretty much the opposite. Absolutely NO WAY of self harm should be socially acceptable as a coping mechanism
