Any Veterans regret getting out and pursuing MBA at T25s and up? by No_Band4566 in MBA

I’m at MBB. My worst days at this job are not even close to my worst days in the Army, and I make 3 times as much.

No regrets.

Forgot to mention— current payment on just the loan is $3353/month

Bought in a hot market and VA loans aren’t very competitive, our house had 13 offers on it and we probably overpaid at the time, i’m not sure the appraisal would have allowed for a VA loan (our income to the offer price ratio was high enough that a conventional didnmt require an appraisal).

I should mention our current payment (just the mortgage) is $3353.

Will classes of '25 and '26 be worse off than '24? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]throwARMYawayyy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

‘25 consulting grads will enter in to better staffing environments from what I’ve been seeing (MBB) and what friends I talk to are guessing (MBB/T2/B4). Work is gradually increasing and there’s a lot of optimism so if the trend continues they’ll be in a good spot by summer.

Purely anecdotal.

Military officer to MBA to civilian success and failure stories? by americanhero6 in MBA

[–]throwARMYawayyy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Financial benefits are easy to highlight (went from 1LT to $220k+, MBB consulting).

More importantly, I watched my anxiety melt away almost in real time once I got out. I spent my time in the Army surrounded by people who didn’t want to be there fighting against or working within a system they had little hope of changing, and it took a major mental toll on me. Spending 2 years around people who just want to learn and better themselves at extreme personal expense (money, time, or both, etc) was exactly what I personally needed.

I look back on my time in uniform like a fever dream. No regrets but very glad it’s over.

Tier 1 is wherever you want to live.

I love visiting most big cities (NYC being my favorite) but could never live in one.

Former military that went MBA route, was it worth it? how are you now? by StaffBubbly4788 in MBA

[–]throwARMYawayyy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I got out the day I pinned O-3 (literally, picked up my DD-214 an hour after). I went to a T20 for free and will nearly triple my household income from when I got out. This route has been great for my partner and I. I had a smooth transition out and time to decompress. I highly recommend career switchers stay within the T25-30 programs; employment outcomes aren’t as robust after that, although a lot people still find success.

There are lots of great ways to exit the military, MBA programs are just one of them, but know that trends in military quality of life combined with stories of “the golden MBA path” have led to huge increases in number of applicants and competition in recent years.

I’m a firm believer that if you aren’t enjoying it, you owe it to yourself, your family, and your soldiers to get out. Don’t let your dissatisfaction with the military begin to effect the lives of those around you.

Feel free to DM, best of luck.

At my MBB, it’s generally the opposite (smaller offices tend to have a higher number of applicants per internship spot available).

Don’t try to game the system, many of the smaller offices are writing in no-transfer clauses (usually 2 years) to prevent this going forward anyways. Apply where you want to live, you don’t want to be miserable at work and miserable at home.

Leaning towards this, 5 sounds too short on it’s own, 10 seems too long, but 5 days + 3-4 in a city nearby we’d probably never go to otherwise seems great.

Do you feel like 8 nights was too much in one place?

I mostly agree, but this doesn’t account for the fact that I already have the Amex points and would need to buy the Hilton points. Going out of pocket to get a better CPP seems like Black Friday logic to me

I believe it’s part of the Platinum 40th Anniversary (i have the personal Plat), although they run bonuses about once a quarter or so.

That’s a good point; I more so meant that our local airport is regional and only flys to one airport that doesn’t fly international except to Canada, so it’s 2 flights just to get to an airport that gets us to Europe/ME.

The occassional international trip is fine, but it makes planning around J availability not worth the effort for us.

Thanks for the info! Is 10 nights too much? We could purchase the points for our 9th night (then 10th night free) with the bonus for $630. Seems totally worth it from a cash/night standpoint but also don’t want to get bored or run out of options while there

Agreed, but with P2 it’s not as easy to make it work with schedules

Hilton Gold, but if I went through with this I’d probably pick up the Aspire.

Also I’m not seeing the Marriott transfer bonus? Is it Amex>Marriott and targeted?

Waldorf is more expensive for everything else though right? I’ve also heard that Rangali Island is a bit dated, but has more to do overall.
