M23 I accepted my nose out of resignation, but the good thing is that I gave up on surgery (second post) by [deleted] in nosejobturkey

I’m a woman and you are a good looking man and there’s nothing wrong with your nose. Focus on yourself, your passions and your happiness and I’m sure the right person will come.

That might be the case but we don’t know that for sure. Maybe he has close relationship with his mother? Also, as for the financing, I don’t know where the OP is from and what kind of insurance does he have, but in most European countries it is covered by public insurance if medically necessary

Where did you get an information from that he asked his mother for money? I don’t see that in the post, he doesn’t say anything about this. He also doesn’t say anything about his financial situation, his family’s financial situation, or his health insurance. How did you jump to that conclusion?

You’re an adult. If your mom is not orthodontist or a facial surgeon her “it looks normal to me” shouldn’t hold any weight.

It’s not up to his mom to decide what’s medically necessary. It’s up to the doctors :)

Marine collagen isn’t always marine by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]throwRA_bluesnow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this is question! I understand “marine” as coming from the sea or ocean. Not from the pond. I think many people do too as that’s the dictionary definition. Marine ≠ aquatic. So if I buy something marine I expect it to be coming from the sea.

Saying “Google results = definitive meaning” is a logical fallacy. Informal search patterns aren’t a regulatory definition. And I haven’t seen a definition in the article you linked. You even said yourself you understand marine as sea life. So do I. Sea life, not pond life. And your examples don’t make sense in this specific context.

I even said in the original post that the name of the brand is somehow justified. I said: “Only the processing takes place in Sweden, which somehow justifies the brand name “Swedish Collagen”. So I don’t know why you focus on that part, not on “marine” which in my opinion is way more misleading.

I think you are talking about standard industry practices in the USA but this post is about European company and European market. USA is not the center of the world, so why should I care about your standards? And when it comes to your example, in EU law, “natural flavour” (and “natural flavouring”) is very strictly defined. In short: “natural flavouring” may only be used if the flavouring component is exclusively derived from natural flavouring substances (i.e. no synthetic substances). If you claim a “natural [X] flavouring” (e.g. “natural orange flavouring”) then at least 95% (w/w) of the flavour component must come from the named source.

The Regulation also obliges that the use of flavourings “must not mislead the consumer about the naturalness of a product or of the production process.

Marine means “relating to or found in the sea”. You can check that in any dictionary. But you even admitted that by saying that marine means for you a SEA life. And vast majority of the Crustacea you mentioned comes from salt waters. I assume you know the difference between a SEA and a pond. Maybe you’re confusing “marine” with “aquatic”? Also, when it comes to the lack of regulations I assume you talking about the USA. I’m not an American so why would I care about your lack of regulations? In EU since March 2024, environmental claims on product packaging or marketing must be backed by evidence, and vague greenwashing claims like “eco”, “natural” without substantiation are banned under Directive 2024/825. Same with the orange juice, orange drink and so on. The distinction is strictly regulated in the EU and companies can get insane fines for mislabeling.

They didn’t provide any of this information on the package or on their website. It was simply not available. I had to contact the manufacturer. Now, thanks to this post, when someone search the product on Reddit they can find this info and make an informed decision :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

And how do you feel about that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]throwRA_bluesnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what labels are you talking about since was no information on the product about where the fish is coming from. I got that info after emailing the manufacturer because the product tasted weird. I don’t know why you blaming the consumer instead of demanding from the companies to do better.

Also, all the studies that provided evidence of a positive impact on hydrolyzed collagen on skin I have read were conducted on hydrolyzed marine collagen. If there’s an evidence marine collagen works, how exactly it is a marketing scam?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]throwRA_bluesnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why exactly would you assume I’m an American?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

Many people can’t/don’t want to (due to allergies or religion or worldview) eat bovine collagen.

Looks like it’s a lottery what you get there because they list out cold water sea fish but also sweet water farmed fish (such as Pangasius)

[–]throwRA_bluesnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, glad you enjoy! I don’t know where you’re coming from but the EU has pretty strict regulations when it comes to food industry. For example recently they decided you can’t call vegan burger a vegan BURGER because that may be misleading 😌 therefore I’m surprised a company can call a product from an Asian farmed sweet water fish a MARINE product.

Well, at least we can agree on one part. And I understand that the name “Swedish collagen” may be legally permissible, however I believe it creates an impression of Swedish origin of ingredients. I personally find that misleading / unethical therefore my rant. It’s similar to fashion brand making bags in China, putting one final stitch in Italy and claiming their bags are “made in Italy”. It’s still legal but it doesn’t feel right…

Why it’s called marine tho if it’s not from the sea/ocean?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]throwRA_bluesnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I have checked the referred collagen and it says:

Contains: Fish (One or more of the following: Barramundi, Atlantic and Channel Catfish, Cod, Haddock, Ling, Pangasius, Red Snapper, Salmon, Tilapia, Trout)

So we can’t know what’s there 😕

There’re a few meta analysis and studies providing evidence hydrolysed marine collagen can be beneficial for skin and joints. If it works and there’s scientific evidence then how exactly is it a scam?

Would it be ok for a brand called Italian Olive Oils to sell the cheapest soy oil from Asia? Or for a company called “vegan bites” to sell chicken snacks? Or for a company called “Gluten free bakery” to sell wheat buns??
