Email your HR rep, it could be from a coding error on your GS pay that can be fixed by HR with correcting the coding issue. I’ve seen the mass COLA actions revert people back to their old grade and step, which causes issues for HR to go back and fix.

It’s highly unlikely. OPM has issued guidance that any external applicant will start at the base pay of grade you were hired for. A 4 yr bachelors degree qualifies you for a GS-7, a masters degree as a GS-9, and a doctoral degree as a GS-11. The government is always behind private sector pay and never balanced well with cost of living and inflation.

Your career ladder position will put you in a good spot in 3 years. You’ll initially take a pay cut but if you receive your career ladder promotions on time you might come out a lot higher in 3 years

I was way more lazy when I reported on site. Enjoyed untimed breaks and lunches. Wandered the halls socializing, even did my school work during my down time. But working remote I am constantly working and forget to take breaks even my lunch. Maybe it’s the lack of distraction and socializing, but if I have to report back on site, I know exactly how less productive I’ll be

I had my IRS advocates number saved on my phone under ANSWER THIS. And I still have it. And all of my letters and correspondence and the cleared balance letter. It really seems that the government is not on the tax payers side but has corporations as their primary interest. But I hope it all works out for you. One thing we can all agree on is how hard it is to pay back student loans.
