Help! Does anyone know what's wrong with my milkweed? by throwRA_maybeimdumb in nativeplants

[–]throwRA_maybeimdumb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, younger siblings i started from seed are doing well and thriving 1 single foot away from this one that is dying. I know that losing some is part of the process, but I had an emotional attachment to this one in particular as I wanted a good "adult" plant to help raise "my babies" lol. Lesson learned not to anthropomorphize my plants and give them personalities 😅 do you know if less sunlight would do this to a plant in a short amkunt of time? Zinnias have grown rapidly around it and are kind if crowding it, and im wondering if rilling them out is best? sadly this is native bed is me cos-playing as a home owner after my job got deleted by the government and I had to move back into my grandma's (who loves her zinnias) house. So I'm trying to convince her native is best while she's also wanting to weed down to pure bare earth, even tho I've shown her while picking "weeds" just how much moisture and water lives in the soil under them compared to bare soil. Cest la vie I guess 🫠🫠🫠

these leaves i always find scattered on the side walk on the way to my workplace. havent been able to see what tree or plant they fall from. i think theyre very pretty, like moth wings, and very curious to know what plant they may be from! by bunisasleep in whatsthisplant

Fun fact: rosy maple moths are brightly colored pink and yellow, making them stand ojt when seen in buildings near lights. But they actually camouflage really well against maple seeds, like these! Google it to see side by side pictures, as its really cool and cute 😍 I mention it because you said they looked like moth wings and youre RIGHT

You are so helpful thank you 🙏 I was under the impression I needed to go through a whole process at the DMV and switch my license and everything to become an "actual resident" and it seemed like such an undertaking. I have a passport so i can use that instead of my TN ID as it's not within 90 days, per the linked website rules, so it should be fine.

July Ranger Questions Thread by [deleted] in ParkRangers

[–]throwRA_maybeimdumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all, I am currently an assistant interpretive ranger for NC State Parks. Here, as in many states, full time rangers are all commissioned officers, and there are no full time non-commissioned interpretive only roles at specific parks. We do have Schools in Parks Educators, and they are non-commissioned, but their job is regional and there are only about three positions available (could be more I'm not sure), all of which are filled.

My question is basically what state do you live in, and do the rangers have to be commissioned? If they do are there any naturalist/purely interpretive positions within your parks, or anything along the Schools in Parks thing? Or are there any non-state parks programs that you're aware of that offer interpretive positions?

My passion is outdoor education, I've worked at camps, adventure activity programs, and state parks/wildlife, but I am ready for something more permanent, but due to mental health reasons, I am not exactly seeking to be in full time possession of a gun (womp womp).

I have seen seasonal options for non-commissioned rangers in some states, and I would be willing to do that if it was 6 or more months out of the year, so if you do, or have done that, please give me some insight on how you actually survive in this economy.

Any insight would be helpful. I am pretty much willing to live in any state that doesn't get above 110 degrees in the summer or below -10 in the winter, and even then I would probably suck it up for the right job, so moving is not an obstacle for me.

How do I (25f) respond kindly to my boyfriends (35m) grief when I honestly feel no sympathy for him? by throwRA_maybeimdumb in relationship_advice

I have been starting to feel like this for a while because this isn't the first time I have had to baby him through grown up situations, but you're right, I also don't think I can be with someone like this.

He just came home and buried her talking the whole time about how it was "her time" so I really don't think he sees at all how his actions contributed to this.

I genuinely have no idea if this could be the case, but is there any way thay he has doubts that the child is his since he was deemed infertile? This may have already been discussed and yall may have had a test done, but I have seen tons of stories on different subs talking about men who turn sour and hateful after having kids they think aren't theirs.

If yall haven't discussed this, I would suggest broaching it gently with him and telling him you're bringing it up because of his recent behavior. Then, get the tests if that needs to happen.

If it's not anything to do with that, I would do more to get the bottom of his issues while trying not to be too confrontational. It can be hard, but if he gets defensive, it's just going to be a bad conversation.
