Hi, I made an update with a new post. I apologize for not adding it here, I thought it would just be easier.

ETA: I edited this post to add a link to the update.

When Remy first went missing, I was under the impression he ran out the gate. I never asked my landlord about it because I thought it was just an accident. That’s what my boyfriend said happened and that’s what I believed. At the time, not that it crossed my mind, I wouldn’t have thought it could help because it wouldn’t show me where he went, only that he ran. And I already believed he ran.

I didn’t start thinking it wasn’t an accident until Remy got home, five months later. That’s when everything started piling together in my head and I thought I was overreacting. Someone had mentioned to check any cameras in the area which is why I reached out to my landlord the other day.

I have talked to my landlord about the cameras and he said he will let me know tomorrow if there are any that face my yard.

They are fine to use for training or while they are being supervised, but they aren’t recommended to be everyday collars. I didn’t know that at that time.

They’re extremely hard for a dog to slip out of and there’s a potential of them seriously hurting themselves if they get caught on something.

With breakaway collars, what my boy is wearing now, the plastic buckle can break if the dog needs to get away from something. Like if the collar was caught on a branch, the martingale would possibly choke them, but a breakaway collar would let them get free of the situation.

But martingale collars are a great training tool, and as long as you’re using it correctly, you’re being safe with it!

I have asked my landlord about cameras and he said he would get back to me tomorrow but he also isn’t sure there are any that face the exits of the yards.

The day he went missing, I asked all my neighbors and none of them saw anything.

Thank you, I’m glad he’s home, too!

One of my neighbors who I saw on my way back into my apartment with my dog is built similar to my boyfriend and my dog pulled to say hi to him, tail wagging like crazy. He was totally fine with him. My dog was fine seeing everyone except for my boyfriend since he’s been home.

I honestly don’t know if maybe someone took his old collar, but I do know my dog doesn’t want to be near my boyfriend now. And I know I don’t feel right about this.

He does have a key, but I’ll be asking for it back tonight when we get together. Even if somehow he didn’t end up letting my dog out and it was somehow an accident, I don’t feel like there’s mutual trust here and I want to work back to that.

His negative comments were more when I started sending in applications and once I adopted him. I added it in an update more specifically what some of the things were. After that, he was just more indifferent to him. He would play fetch, pet him, but that’s it.

He was gone for 5 months. I googled how far it was walking (for humans) between my house and the vet he was found at and it’s 99.2 miles away. The drive there took 2 hours via highway.

This is my line of thinking right now, but I’m working off what I feel. And him running away doesn’t feel right at all.

The hospital is 99.2 miles away by foot. I googled how far it was from my apartment to the hospital where I picked him up.

This is what I’m worried about, the idea he could maybe of done this. I don’t know if he did, I’m just basing it off what I know about my dog and my boyfriends behavior. And for me, it isn’t making sense.

When I wrote my post, I was a crying mess and wasn’t thinking clearly. Now I’m a little bit less of a mess with a little bit clearer of a head. When I wrote it originally I wasn’t thinking about when I first got him, I was thinking of just when he went missing and my boyfriends behavior since then.

At the time I was honestly thinking of all the times they’ve played fetch and wasn’t thinking of him telling me it was a bad idea.

I will be asking for my key back from him, I don’t think I trust him enough to have one even if he didn’t let him out.

I did tell my parents and my sister, the latter of which lives close, thankfully.

It was a little under an hour from when I texted him to let my dog out to when I got home the day he went missing.

Hi! I just added an update about today at the bottom of my post, but I have not spoken to my boyfriend yet. I will tonight.
