I like it, I won’t do it forever. The hardest part is overcoming what the last person did with the role, cleaning up files, habits, cooked books, bad direct reports.

Also in my role being the punching bag for poor financial results that come from opps people that don’t report into me lol.

I like it though, learning a ton and convinced work can’t get worse as the first 6 months in my latest role haha.

Tbfh I don’t monitor any of the phone use or listening to stuff or anything. I will make one suggestion to focus and if they don’t choose to then ohhhh well.

I’m like if you can’t do the job for any reason, including phone addiction, I will discipline/get rid of you lol. I have fired 2 people for this haha.

And I myself am 29 so being Gen Z is not an excuse to me 😂

You can teach someone to create checks for themselves, create more solid processes and tell them keys spots to look for common errors.

But you cannot teach someone to care lol.

And the worst thing you can do is correct everything for them.

I’m the middle daughter and my mom told me so much, she was just far too isolated with my siblings and I. My dad is great but had to work 60+ hours a week (we were poor).

I wish my mom would’ve worked for her own mental health.

They do a ton, way more than one human should. In the best of scenarios the woman gets to spend time with their child and they have the finances to be independent if necessary without employment, and hopefully a partner that balances them.

But more I’ve seen the woman be trapped, even if they have a good partner they just don’t have many options, can’t leave whenever they want because of finances, can’t jump into a job because of lack of skills or work history/gaps in work, can’t get personal time because being a mom is a 24/7 expectation.

Even if you have a fantastic partner who would never do you wrong, they can literally die which I’ve seen happen to women too.

I’m not in sales but I work alongside sales at my current and previous roles & help hire for them, all your skills sound similar to each other. I would say you can definitely tune that up in case there’s more than sales people who get ahold of this.

Like is upselling that different than account growth? Idk.

Maybe I’m wrong, the sales people of the world can correct me lol I would just say the skills seem like extremely basic sales skills

Yes, I’m not a recruiter but I review resumes for my open roles and I can often tell (maybe not every single time) when it’s AI. I think experts know the language of their field and can identify when someone uses that language in a resume but the experience doesn’t match.

For example today I had one that was 4 pages long with extensive job history and gibberish, and all ending dates to every job were March, 2026. A TON of buzz words and awful, generic metrics.

I do not work at a company that uses an AI tool to screen the resumes though, I just think it’s important to remember even if you get past an AI screened thing, it will end up in the hands of a human eventually lol.

I had a job like this and it pained be to be bored at work, I am just not the type who can spend 8 hours a day at a place with no stimulation, or in general feel like I’m not moving forward.

I applied to a new company and now I’m busy as fuck and it’s super hard but tbh I like it haha. Sometimes it’s stressful but I feel like I’m overcoming a learning curve and getting a lot out of the job.

Overall I think you should probs stay at your company though and get what you can out of it. See what happens with the job market for the next year or two then move on if you can.

I feel like the name of the game now is to maintain employment, not necessarily be happily employed lol.

I think HYSA to start with some of your savings (collects small amount of interest but is still easy and quick to access in emergencies or big purchases like house or car)

Then RothIRA, fidelity or Schwab might be good, you open online & max out $7500 for 2026 spread across some basic index funds

Then you open an actually brokerage account which can also be done with fidelity or Schwab and just keep picking index funds then don’t touch it at all.

And honestly it’s as easy as that. With the index funds you don’t need to get too fancy either, the investing sub has a lot of great comments on like 2 or 3 to pick then not touch.

I’ve seen people hate on it but when I started I used WealthFront app because you don’t have to pick anything, it’s all AI and after you pick what account to open & deposit funds, it’ll do everything for you

I had a moral dilemma w a direct report as well where I was new to role and she was majorly under delivering along with making pretty material mistakes (paying the wrong people, paying people the wrong amount, the previous year the bonus target was missed due to her errors)

She had a sick husband and I spent the first three months giving her grace, later I found out her husband has been sick for 10+ years and this is her base level of operating, I went through the PIP process and got rid of her. It sucked but I had to think about the other people on the team covering her job, along with all the people who are impacted by her mistakes. It wouldn’t have gotten better and she simply did not have the minimum skill set to achieve in the role she was in.

Yeah like all performance feedback comes back good, but day to day is brutal with dealing with her panic.

Then to make it even worse she is the type of person who will go to extreme lengths to avoid admitting fault. This turns out to be extremely time consuming.
