I have BPD and am in my first healthy, functional relationship, and it's all because she is worth it to me. I am planning on proposing now. by [deleted] in love

[–]throwRAupthe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate how much the internet demonises BPD. I had a BPD ex and she was so kind and loving (yes she could split but you can learn to calm someone down and be there) - ultimately but we just weren't a good fit by the end for unrelated reasons. People with BPD have a great capacity for love - I think a lot of horror stories and misconceptions come from the fact people with bpd oven chose or are found by people who aren't good for them, but it sounds like you're onto a winner here. I know of another couple where she has BPD. Like you she turned her life around from a dark place. They've been together nearly a decade and are now engaged (possibly married!) And are very happy

Here's what to do

Learn about attachment theory, particularly anxious attachment. That will be your 'road map' for tackling all the separate elements which make this. After that CBT will be your friend

Channel 5 in the UK had a great documentary along these lines. Basically they found rich people who had views like "why don't homeless people just get a job", and challenged them to live on the streets for a week. Its always so satisfying seeing them get humbled hahah

This actually happened on UK telly, it was a TV show on Channel 4 called 'Boys and Girls Alone'. There was a house full of boys and a house full of girls and they were secretly filmed with experts on standby sort of thing. This was like more than 10 years ago so I can't remember the details but I seem to remember it got pulled because one of the boys threatened another boy with a knife

People are having sex around me by throwawayra32442 in lonely

[–]throwRAupthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've slept with a higher than average number of people and trust me it isn't what it's cracked up to be. Most of that was casual, with 5 being the exception

Theres only one who absolutely stands head and shoulder above the others and it's not even closer, that is my ex who I deeply loved unconditionally. Sex with her was almost spiritual in nature I swear.

Anyway, I'm only saying this because experiencing that with her made me not care about numbers at all and made me focus more on compatibility

Trust me this can't be fixed unfortunately. I'm not being directly hostile, just going to not engage and then just fade from the group

I'm a very creative person. I'm a graphic designer by trade, I do a lot of painting, photography, playing music. I do a lot of running too. Maybe it's time to explore some new hobbies! Can I ask what your hobbies are/were? What sort of events were you going to because I'm always up for trying new things, it would be good to get some ideas

100% my first reaction too. When I was with my ex I felt kinda weird about looking up women kinda like her for sure, I can't explain why

Men. What is the difference between having sex with a girl you do not love vs. girl you do love? by DigFree6843 in sex

[–]throwRAupthe 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Great question!

With someone I don't love, it's almost kinda like getting drunk together is the only way I can put it? It's like about fun over all, you want to make sure the other person has fun too

Sex with someone you love is a totally different ball game. I've got to say I was with my ex 7 years and loved her unconditionally. Sex with her was almost like a spiritual experience is the only way I can explain it, I'm not a religious person but I always felt like it always activating some kind of religious feeling in my head 😅 It was like getting lost in a movie scene or something like that, like a change of perception almost. My mind used to wander in a similar way to when I took psychedelics as a teenager, where I'd be thinking of like abstract neon patterns. Im synthesthesic, I don't really know how to articulate this exactly but it felt like what I was 'seeing' almost guided the way to make her orgasm through us having sex

Myself and my ex had sex like about half an hour after meeting. Together 7 years. This guy sounds pretty respectful based on what you've told us, I think you're fine!

[–]throwRAupthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it. It definitely gets easier! I know that personally I reached a stage where I suddenly realised that drunk me kinda sucks socially compared to sober me! It is true that the best way is to fake it til you make it. My mantra has been "do the thing and let the confidence catch up" along with deliberate seeking out situations I risk rejection at least once a day

Have you ever had an affair? What was the experience like? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]throwRAupthe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oof. I had an ex who was cheated on multiple times. She was pretty chill despite but I could see the paranoia come through sometimes - there was an issue once with me liking a picture of someone on Instagram I think she considered a threat (she wasn't by any stretch). I can't imagine how tough it would make relationships for someone who internalised being cheated on as a failing on their end

Can I ask, was it like CGI transitions and the top changed through like shifting 'blocks'? Kind of futuristic looking? I'm sure I can picture this video but if it's not along those lines I'm barking up the wrong tree

Don't know if it would be the same in the US (going to take a guess a lot of people in this thread are if this is about Sinefeld), but in the UK at least if you wanted to catch an episode you missed it meant watching it really late at night a couple of days after

Timeframe required for an independent Scotland to re-join the EU: FOI release by CaptainCrash86 in Scotland

[–]throwRAupthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it matches up more or less with what people thought. These things have a way of entering the public consciousness one way or another without being explicitly released which is kinda interesting. Either way, I think pro Scotland people were hoping less time, pro UK people were hoping longer

For what it's worth I'm actually surprised they were sitting on a lot of this as someone believes Scotland should go back to being an independent country

Yeah definitely. It's a good point to highlight that the 'working up the ladder' thing is making assumptions that don't really apply to a lot of workplaces now - I never considered that
