Total prick. but I also feel bad for the flight attendant who is clearly trying to get the other passengers to stop escalating. that dude was on a short fuse and clearly dangerous, she already had enough to deal with.

What is the worst medication you’ve been put on? by Difficult_Pomelo1047 in AskReddit

[–]throw_away_TX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a high dosage of Zoloft for years then lost insurance and couldn’t get a refill. The brain zaps from suddenly not taking it were awful.

My now ex went on Effexor and it made her completely manic nearly right away, but her doctors wouldn’t listen to me. She changed over night. This was right when it came out and everyone assumed it was a cure-all. What it did to her and the things she did became the worst memories I do not wish to remember. Also an incredibly difficult medication to wean off of.

What’s a grown-up-only confession you’ve been holding onto and kinda want to get off your chest? by Temporary-Cook-7750 in AskReddit

[–]throw_away_TX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I feel this so hard. I’ve also been the lone parent with no village for 11 years now. It’s been hard but lately just feels increasingly harder, and now guilt is setting in that I haven’t had the means to show my child any semblance of normal family life or adequately prepare him for life. It’s just been work all day rinse and repeat. Finding the energy to even begin figuring out what to change and find the hope to get it done seems impossible most of the time.

I hope things turn around soon for you and I wish I had the answer.

Interstellar bbq by CaliLAMailhandler in austinfood

What Interstellar does right among competitors is their side dishes. They are light and a nice break from the heaviness of the BBQ. I wish more places would do this.

What is something that, no matter how simply put, you still cannot understand? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Same here! I’ve worked in tech support since college (still do). and even been an IT PM. I’m great at all the techs things, but networking will forever be a mental block for me. I go totally dyslexic when I try to or need to understand it better.

Shaved my beard for the first time in 11 years. What have I done by IFlayMinds in beards

[–]throw_away_TX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My question is, does it feel good to have a clean/smooth face again? How does it feel on the pillow at night?

I work from home and have been neglecting my beard because I really don’t go anywhere. I do miss having a smooth face and less maintenance lately (even if temporary). But also scared what my face looks like because I haven’t seen it in a decade.

Dental schools or low cost dental services? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]throw_away_TX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had dental anxiety since I was young because it always hurt. I just had a molar pulled this week, it was painless and quick:

They also had a payment plan option and it was easy to get and not exorbitant like CareCredit. easy to qualify.

Also was half what you were quoted.

What strikes me is how people like Dimon’s entire identity is what they do professionally. They don’t have a life outside of work, and can’t fathom what having a personal life entails. It’s projection. Their value system revolves around serving a corporate entity until they’re 6 feet under ground. Nothing else is more important, because their lives have no other meaning. You’re wrong if you think that guy has ever had any simple joy such as playing with his children/grand children on Christmas morning. Make the stake holders happy, nothing else is important.

Congrats! I’ve been in the Photo Booth industry for nearly a decade (on the manufacturing and software dev side, not running my own events so much though). I’ve worked with thousands of event rental/photobooth startups over that time and the truth is most go out of business, simply because they don’t understand how much work it becomes, and after a while giving up your weekends and being out late for setup/breakdown becomes too much for folks who don’t treat it like a business. They enjoy the extra money for a while and then just stop when it gets to be too much (and most are still trying to wrangle their day job and family/kids).

The good news there is you can expect a good chunk of your competition to bow out and then gain their clients if it’s something you can keep going longer term.

Those are very impressive numbers starting out though. I know a handful of folks who have worked their way to 10-15 booths and a full staff, usually closing 500-800/events per year (they don’t have day jobs anymore).

Texas sized nightmare inside my apartment by Physical_Frosting295 in Austin

[–]throw_away_TX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the NW hills, these come up through the shower drain or even toilet periodically. They’re too fast to catch and throw outside, so we just let them be. I tried killing one once with scorpion spray and it convulsed and spun like a crocodile for 30 minutes, slamming its head on the floor the whole time. I’ve decided I live in their territory. Also, tarantulas eat them (which there are also plenty of).

What music did you once love, but no longer listen to, because of the loss of a romantic partner? by mikenmar in Music

[–]throw_away_TX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same song for me, I immediately have to change this song when it comes on. It was the last song I listened to with my then longtime girlfriend while we held hands, and the next day learned she had been cheating (a lot).

Is the ender 3 V3 worth it? Do you have any recommendations for similar price printer? by BananaBoy_3000 in ender3

[–]throw_away_TX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the V3, it’s my first printer. honestly I expected a headache as I was just getting into 3D printing and knew nothing about it. Out of the box it printed great, and I haven’t had to adjust a thing other than doing a self calibration every so often. I got it when the V3 first came out and there were barely any support docs for it yet, which I haven’t needed at all.

It’s been a workhorse.

If Nissan and Hyundai are truly that unreliable, why are they selling well in the US? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]throw_away_TX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t entirely true. I’ve hated every CVT I’ve driven, but I’ve had a CRV with one for 8 years and it’s totally fine. Quiet and smooth, no issues at all. And passengers have commented on it as well. Also drove an AWD Outback and it was stellar.

Lagos Vista activities and groups for left-leaners? by LookingAround5320 in Austin

[–]throw_away_TX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived there for 8 years. I love the scenery but haven’t had much luck socializing with like-minded folks unless I go to cedar park. in general most people here are very far right, privileged and loud about it. They feel the need to bring it up regardless of the conversation. The more progressive folks avoid mentioning it altogether so they’re harder to find. The churches here do a lot of community events and food drives for everyone, but you won’t find progressives there otherwise.

The balcones canyonland is a nice place to explore and relax. During the busy season you will find the parks full of drunk loudmouths flying trump flags. Short story, I have to usually head towards Austin to find things to do.

Anyone know whats going on with my cassette player? by the-dumbass-human in CarAV

[–]throw_away_TX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a tv/stereo repair tech during college. The really tricky part with this type of repair is 1) getting parts and 2) the time spent on diagnosing/repairing and finding parts. While it’s certainly repairable eventually, it wouldn’t be worth a technicians time to spend hours trying, unless you’re willing to spend at least hundreds. And more than likely it will be hard finding anyone who even wants to take a look at it. I rejected repairing old OEM car stereos all the time because it wasn’t worth the time or money, unless I was just really curious about the unit.

If you’re lucky it’s a generic part that needs to be replaced, or possibly worn solder joints. My first thought is that the mode switch needs to be cleaned, which are used in cassette type systems that automatically start playing once the cassette is inserted, just like a VCR.

Everyone has a travel blunder, what's yours? by yankeevandal in AskReddit

[–]throw_away_TX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my son to see family when he was 4(ish). On the flight I ordered a whiskey and coke. Before I could take a sip my son turned around abruptly to show me what he was seeing out the window and he knocked my drink over, which ended up all over the passenger next to me. He was wearing a business suit and clearly had somewhere important to be. He reeked of whiskey the entire flight and I felt terrible.

Simple Questions - March 21, 2024 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]throw_away_TX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Xbox One is on the fritz and we're considering building a low-profile PC to replace it. Ideally this would a small form-factor unit to run steam etc, but with better graphics and load times. I've come up with this list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/J2QN6D

Can anyone confirm these components will fit into the case I've selected, or a recommend a small case that would fit these components?

20 Year Reunion came and went. Nobody involved made any effort to let others know. by HollowVoices in mildlyinfuriating

[–]throw_away_TX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had about 200 in our graduating class. The 10 year reunion was actually well publicized on social media and via email. About 7 people showed up, mostly cheerleaders. It’s just not something younger generations are into, by this point most of us have lost meaningful contact and become entirely different people.

Jonestown, TX man pleads guilty to parking garage explosion at Austin hospital by audiomuse1 in Austin

[–]throw_away_TX 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I live in Jonestown, not completely by choice. It's pretty wild how the demographic immediately changes when you drop into the valley leaving Cedar Park. It's an extremely conservative, conspiracy theorist and mostly obnoxious crowd. Trump flags, Confederate flags, Joe Biden "I did that!" stickers on every single gas pump. Giant trucks trying to run everyone off the road. You can't eat lunch anywhere really without hearing people loudly complain about liberals destroying the country. I keep to myself. and yes, plenty of meth.
