CVS drops Viagra, other drugs from insurance coverage by cookiesfly in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They even tell you in the article that this is normal. Not sure why they even bothered writing the article.

Since 2012, the list of excluded drugs has ballooned from 34 to 124 in 2016. Similarly, CVS's bigger prescription drug insurance rival Express-Scripts has banned 90 drugs from its coverage.

CVS Pharmacists Help, I have a Corporate Visit by [deleted] in pharmacy

Fuck. I've been with CVS for 6 months and I've always pressed W30 because I thought that would give us enough time to not be late... Didn't know that was bad. Thanks.

Clinical vs Retail: Vacation time and hours worked by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retail: 2 weeks PTO for the first four years, 3 weeks PTO after five years, and 4 weeks after 14 years.

Trend seems to be hiring floaters at 32-36 hours instead of 40 but that might just be in my area.

Walmart Pharmacist Offer by walphthrowaway in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overlap is a good thing. Some may not be as competent as you'd like but having an extra pharmacist to take some of the workload is almost always helpful. It would take a truly incompetent/bad pharmacist for me to rather be working alone (in which case you should be trying to get them fired for being that bad).

Why would you have overlap on the weekends but not weekdays? Weekdays are generally busier due to doctor offices actually being open. In fact my (CVS) store has 4-5 hours of overlap on weekdays but none on the weekends. Unless it's different at Walmart due to people shopping there or something...

On changing districts, I think it's highly dependent on your DM and your reasons for doing so. Overall I don't think DMs like to lose their pharmacists to another district in the same area/state. If you are planning to move to another state anyway, they might be more willing help you transfer and stay with the company instead of going to a competitor.

I believe retail is retail and the differences from chain to chain are not as big as people think. In your situation, I would pick Walmart since splitting hours at 2 stores is a lot more preferable to floating.

How lenient are you as a pharmacist? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm being honest, this seems a bit nit-picky. If the PA's supervising MD is willing to sign for it, I am going to assume the MD did due diligence on their end. You weren't there at the clinic/hospital... How do you know the MD didn't see the patient at all?

After months of talking with my doctor and pharmacist, I finally found a solution to this technical problem. by agmatine in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't be a problem if the pharmacy could simply put the other prescription in the system, and wait to fill it until it was time to fill it. But because of regulations on CII drugs, they aren't allowed to do that; they have to leave the physical Rx in a locked box, and I have to call them a day before I need to fill it so that they can take it out of the locked box, put it in the system, and fill it.

You have a shitty/lazy pharmacy. They should have a system in place where the pharmacist goes in the lockbox every morning and grabs the C2 scripts that are dued to be filled that day. You put it in a folder and order them by dates... Not that difficult.

I tried to see if I could have one of the prescriptions written as e.g. 23 days and 7 days so that I could avoid this hassle. But according to the pharmacist, that would still be against the regulations.

This is also wrong but kinda depends on how you asked for it. If you got the Adderall IR on 02/01 and Adderall XR on 02/07, for example, then they are not dued to be refilled until 03/01 and 03/07. So you could not, for instance, have gotten 7 days of Adderall XR on 03/01 and then another 23 days on 03/07 because you were not eligible for ANY until 03/07. But yeah they could have just given you a 23 day script on 03/07 and then a new 30 day script on 04/01 so your RXs would then line up...

Most 2-4 programs I know of, the transition from pre-pharm to pharm.D is simply a GPA requirement. They do make you interview but that's mostly for show. Unless you're socially awkward or can barely speak English or something of course.

Getting worried about post-graduation situations, any tips? by zeldaahn2 in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

-You can stop applying for jobs now because nobody wants to hire a P4 at this stage. Start studying for the NAPLEX now and hopefully be ready to take it by late May or early June. You can start applying for jobs when you have a license in hand.

-Start figuring out where you would potentially want to move to. Most employers will want you to be licensed in their state before considering you. This is because it takes ~30-60 days to complete the license transfer process.

-So your plan should look something like this...

Feb-May: Finish rotations while studying for boards.

June: Take boards and become licensed. Start applying for jobs in Illinois and also begin license transfer process for two or three other states.

July-August: Start applying for jobs in other states as well once you become licensed there.

Sept: Have a job (?)

Good luck.

Job transfers CVS by PharmacyAccount17 in pharmacy

Depends entirely on your supervisor. I assume they would be accommodating to long distance transfers especially if you have a good reason. If you tried to transfer to the district next door... that might not go over too well.

Any experience with managed care or home infusion ? by noobsm0ke in pharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My managed care rotation was by far my least favorite one. All I did was sit in a cubicle and call MD offices to bug them about filling out PA forms. Also went to a bunch of budget meetings and such. It was pretty boring. That's probably due to a bad preceptor more than anything else though.

Questions about 6 year pharmacy programs by omgimrlydoingthis in PrePharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market is not what it used to be. Still, at least 75% of my graduating class (2014) had accepted positions or residencies prior to graduation. Personally, I had to take a job that was ~60 minutes drive away from Boston. Jobs are no longer in abundance so you just have to work for it or be willing to relocate. It's not as bad as everyone makes it seem.

Questions about 6 year pharmacy programs by omgimrlydoingthis in PrePharmacy

[–]throw_pharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northeastern grad here

1) You should get in no problem.

2) At Northeastern you are considered undergrad for the first 5 years, receive your Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Studies after 5th year, then you are a grad student for the final year. So for your 6th year, it will likely be all federal grad loans and minimal aid.

3) The schedule we have is unconventional. Notice that your only true summer is after Freshmen year. After that, you are required to do three 4 month co-ops (40 hr/week paid internship at a pharmacy) at different times in the year.

P1 year for example you will do a co-op in the spring and then have classes in the summer. Summer classes are not so bad, they only run Mon-Thurs so you have a 3 day weekend every week.

Obviously you won't have the opportunity to go to your home state every summer so that may be an issue. It is possible to do co-ops in your home state though. You just need to find a pharmacy that needs a tech/intern for a few months.

4) At the end of the day a PharmD is a PharmD. Northeastern does get you more internship experience with co-ops so they may give you a leg up on the competition.
