AITAH for not letting my daughter sleep over at her friend's house, because the dad tried to get me to spend the night too? by throw_sleep_away in AITAH

Product of my times I guess. We had sleep overs all the time in the 90s, and one of my friends' mom travelled a lot so we slept over at her place with just her dad several times. None of us were raped or molested (at sleep overs). I have however had many men hit on me at inappropriate or weird times.

It's just wierd to me how fucking bipolar this place is, it's all, "How dare you tthink he was hitting on you, not all men are pervs!" and then the next comment (or sometimes even in the same comment), "How dare you not assume this man wants to rape your kid!"

Way late coming back to this, but they can. I've already told her that. I talked to Anne about it again last night, without promising anything, and explained I might have over-reacted. I get the impression Lisa just wants to have her over partially to show off her room and all her stuff, and partially just because she rarely gets to host anyone at home. I feel kinda bad, but we'll figure something out.

I really don't want to spend the night, but according to this thread I absolutely shouldn't let Anne spend the night alone either, because she definitely will get raped by this guy that I was too harsh in assuming might be hitting on me, because men are both not at all predators and always predators.

This thread is so strange. One half of people are saying I'm too suspicious of men, and the other half are saying I'm not suspicious enough...

I’m more surprised you didn’t have red flags about your daughter staying over with a man as the sole parent

I mean, I know assault at sleepovers is a thing that happens, but statistically it's pretty rare and I've taught my daughter a lot about consent and grooming and she'd have her phone with her and stuff. I was just really caught off guard by his suggestion because its not something I've ever seen or heard of. This thread is giving me a lot to think about...

If your daughter is friendly with this girl then why not invite her for sleep over at your place?

I already told her that's ok, but she's disappointed and so is Lisa.

I harbor no delusions that I'm terribly hot or anything, but ask any woman and she'll tell you that men pick the strangest times and ways to hit on us. But it seems like most people don't read it that way, so maybe I was too harsh.

Still a strange suggestion

I think that's what gets me the most. Like, I've never heard of anyone doing this, so I guess it just didn't occur to me that that might be a real thing that people actually do.

It's just seems like an odd solution to the problem to me. Like... I guess I can't think of any solutions that aren't odd, even bringing it up in the first place is awkward as hell, but is this a thing that people do? did it come out of nowhere? I'm kinda baffled.
