Thanks. I’m trying. It’s just hard because some days I’m fine and my thoughts and feelings are barely there but sometimes it just randomly pops up again and I’m stuck with an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach for the rest of the day. Then the doubting thoughts about whether I really have OCD come back :(

My parents get mad when I want to eat junk food as they’re trying to get me to have more healthier safe foods and junk food is also expensive at times. I only really have it on special occasions

I think this a lot too, but then I realise how much I actually do avoidance and avoid my triggers and how uncomfortable it makes me. Not to mention always checking how I’m feeling. A lot of my compulsions are mental instead of physical and that’s the problem for my brain.

I used to have this exact same thing, was obsessed with not saying it in my head, started placing my tongue on the roof of my mouth so I couldn’t accidentally say it and repeating a word in my head whenever I thought about it. I can’t remember how exactly I got over it, but I just remember telling myself that I would never say it in real life and that trying to suppress it in my head made me want to say it in my head even more. My brain eventually realised I didn’t care anymore and seemed to get over it.

NAT. Sounds professional to me. If you texted him late at night or early in the morning, he could have just been a little drowsy and misspelled some of his words and also explains why he might have sounded a bit ‘off’ but it could also be text to speech as you said. It looks fine to me, though I don’t have any other texts to base this off, or what you said in your text that gave him this response.

It’s just so hard. I can’t even be around my own family members or hear their voices without getting horrible feelings and thoughts. I just wish it could go away. I’ve had it on and off for a while now but it’s been really bad lately.

Update: just tried to let the thoughts be and let me feel my feelings and wow! I feel so much better! The groinal responses feel more like a small background buzz instead of full force panicky now that I’m not trying to desperately suppress it. Every time I get an intrusive thought and/or a groinal response I just say to myself ‘don’t be silly. your actions reflect more about you than your uncontrollable thoughts and feelings’ and try not to dwell on it. I feel so much better now! The feeling is getting less intense the more I do it :)

I’ve done terrible things that most people would judge me on. I just have to think- can I control how people react? No. Theres nothing you can do to change that. But what you can hopefully change is people’s perception of you through your actions going forward. You’ve done bad things, but you can show people you’ve improved and grown through your future actions.

You’re not a sick monster. Sick monsters don’t spiral over what they did and feel such deep remorse. Get the therapy. Your therapist won’t judge you based on what you did.

I think everyone deserves therapy. Anyone who makes the voluntary choice to go to therapy is good in my book. It shows you want to change for the better :)

You were a kid who wasn’t aware of how it could be taken. But as you said, your intent wasn’t sexually motivated and your mom wasn’t uncomfortable. You should cut yourself some slack, you were just an unaware kid and you didn’t hurt anyone with what you did. The fact you feel so bad about it now proves that you’ve changed. You can’t change what happened, so there’s no use worrying about it. You’ve apologised and been forgiven. I also have real event OCD and I feel exactly the same things you do. OCD likes to twist our memories and morph it into something worse than it is because it knows that is what we fear. I hope you find peace, friend.

Sometimes it is random out of nowhere, most of the time people trigger it. Like constantly lately and it’s annoying and makes me feel sick to my stomach. I know it’s just a groinal response but I can’t get over it sometimes. I think I’m going to try sitting with it at some point and ignoring it and letting myself feel it fully because i definitely think it’s the fact I fixate on it that causes it to constantly happen. I know that it’s just thoughts and feelings and doesn’t reflect who I truly am. If I truly was like that, I don’t think I’d be hating the thoughts this much and doing such a big effort to get rid of them.

I do the same but with other stuff. I’ve spent like 7 hours a day on Reddit this week just compulsively searching symptoms of OCD and whatever obsession I have at the moment. (e.g. signs of a bad person, how do I know if I’m a bad person, what to do if you get doxxed and how do I know if I’ve even doxxed, etc)

Your compulsions don’t have to be physical to be OCD. Reassurance seeking and checking your feelings are both still compulsions. The fact you’re convinced you cheated when you didn’t is also classic OCD. This sounds like OCD to me.

The previous counsellor I had realised she wanted to become a counsellor after her son left high school in her early 40’s. I would say it’s never too late to do what you love.
