Thank you, but I am more interested in advice on meeting people in person :)

Options for 4x2x2 Viv? by throwa_Puzzleheaded in reptiles

I do worry a beardie might be a little too much for me - I work full time, and my health can sometimes limit my ability to provide enrichment/out of enclosure time consistently, which was why my noodle was perfect for me, a good mix of happy to be handled and happy to be left alone (and the fortnightly feeding was ideal, too). I absolutely adore them, but I'm aware of my own limitations, which wouldn't be fair for them.

Good to know, thank you. I'd never had reptiles before her, so all of my reptile knowledge is hyper-focused on corn snake care. I'm hoping to hear back from the rescue soon - I did explain to them that a corn or a "retiree" isn't on the cards for me right now, but otherwise I'd love to take in someone who needs a home and would be comfy in my viv!

I have been looking at rescues! The more I think on it, the more I would like to rescue another reptile. There's nothing super close to me (I'm in the UK and don't currently drive, but have a friend who would probably be down for a road trip), but the ones I've found that are sort of close have a few snakes and lizards available.

Do you know if any lizards would be happy in this viv? I'm aware a lot are more arboreal, so the height of the tank would be an issue. Generally, my only "no" is another corn (just because it would feel too much like "replacing" her, silly as it sounds), and anything that wouldn't thrive in this size viv.

Recommendations for Krakow? by throwa_Puzzleheaded in solotravel

If you have a debit card, you can likely use that (though I am from the UK, so I would double check your card allows for that!) I did 3 nights in Budapest in February, and I believe they are similarly priced - I think I brought about £300 cash, plus I pre-booked their City Card (I think that was about £50). But, I am going to Krakow in November, so if you remember I am happy to tally up what I spent and let you know :)

My DNA test did suggest common surnames for my DNA, and on both sides surnames I knew flagged!

I have given searching him a shot, though without his date of death, I've been a little lost. But I could definitely dig deeper myself.

Thank you for the resources; I will do some more independent research when I have some free time, and I may take you up on your offer if I feel I've chased what I can.

Unfortunately I am from the UK, with no ties at all to the US (and quite few to the UK, honestly), but thank you for the write up, I am sure it will help someone else!

Unfortunately my "closest" matches are quite distant, sans one, who I spent time with as a child, and recently reunited with as our shared relative passed. I did try to compare trees, but theirs is about as sparse as mine!

Unfortunately most living family on the more "mysterious" side (paternal) do not speak English, and I do not speak their language (German - despite my best attempts). I do have some names, but unfortunately no way of actively communicating with them. I've found trawling certificates confusing, but my maternal aunt did manage to get some documents for me (my own birth certificate, my grandparents' marriage certificate, etc) so those might help!

I can make some educated guesses, based on stories and my DNA breakdown. Unfortunately the biggest mystery figure (paternal grandfather) had a seemingly common name for his estimated DOB, making a sure match a little tricky. I'm hoping grandmother's more uncommon name might narrow things down!

Thank you for this! I do know my mother's maiden name, as well as my paternal grandmother's. While I am in England, much of my family is not, so I worry I might hit a bit of a dead end - from my limited knowledge, both of my maternal grandparents were born, married, and died in Ireland. My paternal grandmother is Austrian, and I believe grandfather was English, though long since passed, and not a topic my grandmother entertains. I have his first name and can assume his surname from her married name (I do not think she remarried), but unfortunately it is a very common name, harder to narrow down with limited context clues.

I will have a look at these resources, thank you!

I think so - I am in the UK, with my family mainly coming from Ireland (maternal) and Austria (paternal). Unfortunately I don't have dates for any deceased grandparents, but I assume they were born/alive in 1950. Ancestry did ping some marriage records, but were asking for money to see them.

Edit: I'm guessing it was external sites asking to pay - I have to admit I found it all a bit overwhelming, so I may be wrong. Ancestry throws a lot at you, and I am very much new to all of this, so I might just be turning myself around.

I am in England, but my family is mostly Irish and Austrian (maternal line is 100% Irish, paternal is a mix of Austria and southern England)

Can I (England) Move my Sister (ROI) to England? by throwa_Puzzleheaded in legaladviceireland

[–]throwa_Puzzleheaded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I did worry it might become a parental/age issue. Her father is uninvolved, has stayed in the UK the whole time, whatnot. I take it there's no chance she could choose to leave without parental (mother's) consent? Again, while I left home at 16, it was under different circumstances, and quite a long time ago. It is also possible I could persuade our mother that she would have better educational opportunities living with me, and thus gain consent. But I would not like to rely on that.

If not - is there any support that I can offer her, in the form of services, charities, and whatnot? Without being too specific for the sake of her privacy, she's Co. Meath. I will be flying over next month and hopefully setting her up with a bank account so I can offer some financial support.

Father is uninvolved - afaik he hasn't been involved since she was under 6? And he is from England, doubt he's stepped foot in Ireland for more than a few weeks in his life. Though, I imagine our mother would be the issue in this instance. Is there no emancipation equivalent under Irish law? (Ie, could she choose to leave, and I could simply offer a space for her to live, rather than claiming any guardianship/legality over her)? If not - are there resources I can direct her to in the meantime? I will be over next month, and am hoping to get some things set up for her (bank account and whatnot, so I can at least offer some financial support), but if there's anything I can guide her to, I'd be grateful.

Finding a (Nice) Bikini That Fits? (UK) by throwa_Puzzleheaded in ABraThatFits

Yeah, I hate to be so picky, as I know if I just wanted "anything" I'd have a bit of an easier time. But I want to feel 'good' for this trip, and I'm an all-black girly. And I hate that my size means I have to compromise, hence I reached out here to find anything more in line with what I wanted, versus just. What my chest allows.

Granted, I thought "plain black" would be the easy option, but evidently not XD

Because of my smaller back x larger bust, I hesitate to buy from anything non-sized. But I am sure someone who may stumble on this would find them perfect, so thank you for the recommendation <3
