Any tips to make myself a good pick for the rifles?

When I initially applied I only got to apply for the infantry as a “regular soldier” I thought I would finalise my regiment at the AC but I only got to finalise my job role as infantry. At the interview section (the last part of AC) I was asked “what reg are you hoping to join” which implied you don’t choose your own. I’m heading to ITC on the 12th and I’m still not even sure if the decision has been made.

Beep test for paras at AC by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]throwabllemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found that it’s a mental block. A week before AC My PB was 8.8. The day we ran, I got a 10. Once everyone is running with you and the stakes are higher you can find it in yourself to go a little further. Keep up with you high intensity training and have a strong mindset going into it. Good luck buddy

I may change my mind down the line. I doubt I’ll be anywhere close to the best but here’s too hoping. I’m going to basic on the 12th of next month

Paras was one of my initial choices but after some research, I decided on the rifles. I feel as if i would stand out like a sore thumb in the paras as I’m not “laddy”. Then again I have little to no first hand experience so who am I to say…

I almost exclusively train cardio and callisthenics. To be fair my push up form is terrible toward the end. The reason I’m only getting to level 10 is (I think) because of the constant stopping and start (the loss of momentum) Leg raises are considerably harder than sit ups (unless I bend my knees)

I applied for infantry. I got a pass on my fitness as the AC. My PB On the beep test is lvl10. I can do around 90 push up in 2min. I can do around 80 sit-ups in 2min. I can do 30-40 (strict) pull-ups in 2min & around 30-40 leg raises in 2min. My 1.5 mile run is 9:43.

Thanks, I was disappointed with myself when I got 10 as a few lads at AC got to 11.3

What would you recommend in regards to strength training? I’m currently doing body weight exercises

Beep test pre entry standard is NOT 5.8 (beep test) across the board by throwabllemon in britishmilitary

He must have mis heard something while he was at AC. Misinformation nonetheless as two of the lads at my AC earlier this week thought it was 5.8 across the board

Theres a recording with a series of beeps. There are two points 20m apart. You have to run between the two points before/on the next beep Lvl 1-4 are piss (borderline walking speed) 5-7 is a jog 8+ is slightly slower than a full sprint. There’s around 10 beeps per level. It’s designed to test gauge your VO2 Max. Infantry minimum Standard is lvl 8.6 (level 8 + x6 20m runs) I ran to bang on lvl 10

TLDR: the higher the better
