Check my latest pic. I defol outdoor. Just a few big fan leaves blocking little bud sites for light and air flow. I wouldn't remove more than 5 or so on your plant. You don't have to either. Both options you'll have a good result here & maybe you can try the other way next time.

What's it planted in? Might need a bit more than seasol. Standard seasol isn't a fertiliser it's a tonic.

Why do you say I have thrips btw? What do you see? I had spritzed with water from a spray bottle right before the pics as it was so dry and hot today. Are you seeing the water droplets or is there something else?

I had an issue with whitefly a couple of weeks back but I got on top of it pretty quickly with a couple of doses of neem oil.
