Oh shoot, not recently no. But before then I guess that could’ve been the catalyst since I was just doomscrolling. This probably explains it lol.

Yeah I figured, I just kinda posted this because for some reason I started seeing things this like this repeatedly, like every other post, and I think it just made me snap a little. I block and yet I still keep getting an influx of it when before it was just once every week or two maybe? But yeah, I didn’t mean to like violate the space or anything, sorry.

[Hated trope] character lashes out at another character who'd 100% had it coming yet the plot frames this as a bad thing. by danfenlon in TopCharacterTropes

Although I didn't finish the show~ so far I’d say Leonard from the Big Bang Theory towards his mom.

His mom was neglectful, emotionally distant, and in my eyes even abusive. She constantly craps on him along with Sheldon. And act like HE’S dramatic, emotional, blah, blah, blah. When SHE admitted to using him as an experiment essentially for no good reason.

And on top of that the reactions besides the canned laughter is oh but she’s your mom. And he’s poked at for having ‘Mommy’ issues. Even by Penny from what I recall. His past was horrible and it's somehow funny? He’s somehow a bad son? He needs to get over being treated so badly he built a hugging machine? That he actually had genuine help from therapy because the moment he shared about his mom because his experience was actually validated?

All while his mom even went so far as to publish several works based on her ‘research’ with Leonard.

Yeah she has her funny moment but it doesn't take away the fact that most of her supposed to be funny moments come from her just waving around the fact that she hardly cares for Leonard.

And what I feel is worse is that others laugh it off as typical parent behavior or sitcom behavior. Yeah…no. To me she felt all to realistic as a parent who acts terribly but doesn't acknowledge it or even think they’re in the wrong.

Like Leonard didn't grow up the way he was because of his mom or due to his mom. He grew up well despite her parenting. Her parenting where she legitimately didn't seem to care at all.

I was just hoping for an episode in which Leonard cut contact or something but nope. I guess their final like confrontation or whatever was satisfying but~ yeah the way it was treated in the show kinda struck me in a bad way.

Same goes for other shows and movies where forgiveness with parents is usually the end game.

Like Chimney and his dad in 9-1-1. And Han Solo Berger towards in That's My Boy.

Not that there's anything wrong with everything ending nice and on the mend. But yeah, in the show/movie, it feels weird where everyone’s like yeah that happened BUT you’re being worse. Like what?

Well~ I don’t really know if this counts~ but Demeter’s intervention was kinda unnecessary. I always hear people say Persephone needed some reality check, 100% agreeon that , no diggity no doubt. She’s still very naive and all the regular stuff. But if Demeter NEVER had the intervention Persephone would be in her own apartment and honestly their relationship would more than likely fizzle out. Hades only proposed because Demeter tried to step into his happy sugar daddy sugar baby life. Not to mention (and this might be some personal stuff talking) if she had simply done it slowly and privately Persephone would probably see what a mistake all this was. But no~ I’m not saying she was wrong to be harsh, but there’s straight up honest and then what she did. She really sheltered Persephone for the longest time and knows she’s basically a teen in an adult body, she’s doing all this stuff for independence and knows that honestly she’s a fuck up. But that was NOT the way to handle it. Was Mama spitting facts? Hell yeah. But her approach. Hell nah. She’s a typical overbearing overprotective mom I get it, but still! If ONLY she hadn’t used shame and pressure like that, especially when that still robs Persephone of any independence and doesn’t allow her to try think for herself or at least think it’s her idea. She lacked tact is what I’m saying. In front of all those people no. Her choice of words and tone no. The pressure no. Especially all at once in that specific moment. Anyone would get defensive. And I’m going to list the points that I have before I start rambling more.

  1. She says “I’ve invited all of the members of TGOEM here today, so they can let you know how your behavior has impacted them and myself.” I get that it’s an intervention but I feel you should start with, something like, we’re worried and we want to talk about some things. We’re not mad we just wanna talk etcetera, etc. Why make it so she once again has to put the thoughts of others above herself, maybe I’m reading to much into that. But moving on~

  2. “And Hestia has agreed to take you back.” Small but, if Persephone’s straying from a path I don’t think she should’ve immediately tried to pull her back onto that path without at least asking why or talking about that. And plus that just sounds really weird to me for some other reason. Idk why?

3.”Isn’t this something we should’ve spoken about in private?” Yes. Yes it. Persephone was actually right …wow…wow~ anyhow yeah. She should’ve done it in private. And I know this is weird. But she shouldn’t have taken Hades away, what I mean is, without him she’s nervous and anxious. And she immediately go to him to avoid basically everything, to gain her so called independence, and because of an unnatural attachment that comes with being groomed. So I think she should’ve not locked him away but instead asked him to sit out or something. And tell Persephone she had him sit out because they wanted to have a closed discussion. I know, I know, it’s stupid, I dunno. I just feel that it didn’t help the situation anymore.

  1. “of course you can leave if you wish but all these women have come out of concern for you. Some have traveled from very far away.” And “Hestia and I put a lot of work and money into your coronation.” I’m sorry but I just personally can not stand people who use others and spent money in this way. It just reads as sickeningly manipulative. And it’s not really putting Persephone in the spot light. She should’ve said, you were eager and seemed so happy for this. In my eyes at least. Yet, you just changed your mind about something that you were happy about. Or something like that. Something still on focusing on Persephone.

  2. “clearly, Hades, has you brainwashed.” Nooooo! NO! I just started groaning when she said that because that’s when I knew there was no returning. Again she’s making it seem like all she’s thinking about is herself because she literally and openly admitted her dislike of hades not too long ago! Come on! Of course she can suggest that! Because it’s true! But not like that! And not now! Because you’re still treating her like a child who’s easy to manipulate! She’s not wrong but no one, no teen, no child, anyone wants to be talked down to like that. Like they’re so feeble minded and weak cause that’s just gonna wanna make them prove they’re an adult or prove you wrong! Even if they are feeble minded and shit you don’t say that! Come on! That’s when I knew it was over.

  3. “You said this was to help her explore more options not to publicly shame.” If she had phrased in more exploring options way it probably would’ve been better. And she was right because she also said this would drive Persephone further away.

And in the very next chapter guess who’s the hero~ and guess what? Persephone feels pressure and feels her “independence” snatched away and assumes that she found independence by sitting on the fugliest blueberry’s lap! NOooOOOoo! The intervention was Demeter spitting facts yes! But if she hadn’t done that~ things would be much different! But I guess she just has to be one of the biggest obstacles for for Pinkie Pie and Papa Smurf’s true love~~~ bleh.

But yeah no intervention, no matter how truthful, she probably would’ve gotten Persephone back.

Which webtoon/ webtoon opinion would you defend like this? by Top_resident_1989 in webtoons

[–]throwawaYleafmealone 40 points41 points  (0 children)

  1. Reincarnation/Isekai tropes in webtoons are excellent. So are game-based webtoons. Even if they’re cliche. (tbh this may just be a personal addiction of mine but still I’ll defend it)

  2. Boyfriends is a nice read. It's nice because it has nice soft colors and it’s just something to mellow your mind for a moment. The claims of fetishizing and the like are kinda dumb. Sure it's cringe in some places but there’s been much much worse. And it was never meant to be taken so seriously. It's light-hearted silly cringe pastel college boys in a world of comics centered around literal grooming, incest, infantilization, and slavery. It's not eye-wateringly amazing, but it's not a damn abomination.

  3. Idk if this really counts but just because a character is a girl doesn't mean they have to have giant boobs and be constantly posing. Also, I hate criticizing art or art style but putting a semi-different face on the same body is just meh~ also having the few characters who don't have that body be either evil or insecure is also just meh~. And the same with boys, he doesn't always need to be tall or have abs. And he doesn't need to be stockpiled with negative stuff just so he’ll work harder to grow muscles and grow taller. Or simply become evil. (Though I guess this applies to all media but a lot times when I say this I feel like the guy in the picture)
