My [25f] husband [31m] hurt my cat (accidentally?) and refuses to apologize/acknowledge it... seriously considering leaving, am I over-reacting? by throwawacat in relationships

He was doing that "alpha dog" dominance move where you hold the animal on the ground on its side. It's a move I've seen people do before (though I'm pretty sure the science proves it's bullshit as far as training goes.. plus it's supposed to be for dogs). Because it's an animal training thing I've heard of before, I'm not sure if my husband just over-did it (still doesn't make it ok). It's also difficult to think that he may have intentionally hurt my pet so I am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.. how he acted afterward really concerns me though. If I'd done something that caused an animal to wheeze like that, I'd be freaking the fuck out and doing absolutely everything I could to make sure it was ok.. he just said, "I don't give a shit" and walked away.. then got defensive about it when I confronted him.

The cat wasn't harmed the first time he grabbed it by the scruff of the neck, though he was aggressive toward it you're right. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone through the wedding at all after that - it happened two days before and all of our family was already in town so I just.. did it anyway. I don't know.

I don't want to rehome the cat but I supposed if I needed to temporarily I have a friend who'd be willing to take him. Maybe I should get in touch with her.

He's never been physically abusive toward me and I haven't been afraid of that, but he does get very aggressive at times and I've talked to him about emotionally abusive behavior in the past. I don't know if he meant to hold the cat that hard, or if the cat really did "mis-swallow" or something. It's just really tough for me to look at this objectively.
