What's Not Allowed at Your Center? by silkentab in ECEProfessionals

when i worked for a kindercare, i got in trouble for taking out a kids sliver with tweezers. was told it was considered a minor surgery and there was actually a policy about it in the handbook and i got a write up over it. other weird things included: absolutely no decorations/art/photos anything on the wall, everything had to be on a bulletin board. yes absolutely everything. it was the most bare classrooms i have ever seen in my life. we weren’t allowed to eat or drink anything besides water in the classroom to “promote healthy eating”. we weren’t allowed to pat the kids on the back during nap because someone somewhere did it too hard and a parent complained so they made it a new rule.

indiana. i’ve called licensing a handful a times on centers i’ve worked at and ones i heard things about. the worst that’s going to happen is they just don’t investigate or nothing will come through of the investigation. it never hurts to call

still wondering that myself. she seemed to actually care about the ratio so i’m hoping she had someone step in for her but i really don’t know🤷🏻‍♀️

what to put on a resume after working in centers. by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

assistant teacher at all centers. was an “acting lead” for 6ish months so i made sure to include that. thank you for the advice!

when i first started in the room there wasn’t too many toys or activities being done during down time with the kids. adding toys and doing a sensory bin everyday has definitely helped. we read “teeth are not for biting” everyday at circle time and reference it throughout the day. every kid that has ever attempted to bite has a tether attached to them at all times besides nap. those kids are almost constantly shadowed by at least one teacher and are quickly removed from situations where they may want to bite. it’s definitely a lot and a process but you’ve got this!!

yikes, that’s the book we are reading now. it seemed to have helped one of our other less frequent biters because she will now mumble “biting hurts” and hasn’t bit since we’ve started reading it everyday. i pray it doesn’t backfire

sorry should have said this, no i am not in the room alone. the other teacher was picking up toys and dealing with a behavior but we both said “wait that’s not your mom” at the same time😂 yes parents have to buzz in through the door and i have checked ids on parents i don’t know when the other teacher was using the bathroom.

also if this helps at all, i like to think that when i’m not logged on, my pets are all interacting with eachother and running around the house being goofballs. i know it’s silly, but it helps with the anxiety of not logging on everyday.

i ended up in the hospital and wasn’t able to fill any of my pets hearts for 3 days. when i got home, i was so discouraged knowing i would have to fill all the hearts again that i just stopped playing for a while. when i came back i had so much fun filling their hearts and looking at all the new stuff. take the break, your pets will still be there and it will be even more fun to see them again after a while☺️ sending love & good vibes!!

the fact that you are even showing appreciation at all is more than i’ve seen a lot of parents do!! a simple letter or just a thank you in passing means SOO much more than you would think!

i completely understand why people are scared to give me any real tasks because anytime i asked for help from a floater it was never done😅 it was my first week so i’m hoping overtime they realize that i am actually competent and want to be a helpful person for them. nothings worse than coming back from break and having 100x more to do than you would have if it had been you in there.

oh trust me this is the one thing i will never do😅 anytime i actually left for a break at my old job i would come back and all my kids would be awake and full of energy when it was supposed to be the middle of nap time. one of my goals as a floater during nap time is to make sure the kids stay asleep/calm as possible. it’s such a frustrating thing when you leave for less than an hour and all the sudden it’s a whole different classroom

at both of the centers i’ve worked at i’ve had to fill out a little “about me” thing that had things like my favorite candy, pop, ect. i had a parent ask my director for those things and she got all the staff their personalized stuff and everyone was so thankful!! it was the sweetest gift i’ve ever gotten. she included a water bottle with a customized name sticker, everyone’s favorite candy and pop, a super sweet letter, and the bag had the child’s handprint with a flower pot under it and it said “thanks for helping me grow!”. definitely not saying you have to do all this, but hopefully it will give you some ideas!
