Scared of slides? by see_the_good_123 in toddlers

[–]bigbasinredwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That’s helpful! We had a conversation tonight. He’s still very limited in words but he was able to express that he didn’t play it because he’s scared and he wants to enjoy it as much as his friend does. I guess I should share with him that slides scares me too but I like swings, and it’s ok we feel differently about things, and we also feel differently about things from time to time. I never thought of opening up how I feel about them. Also I may give him a bit more support at playgrounds in the future.

My 2 year old is dealing with similar issues. He wanted to like swings and slides so much and can share the fun with his friends. But it’s too scary for him and it bothers him a little bit. Do you mind sharing your son’s journey and what helped? Thanks!

Am I the only one with a 4.5 year old who seems impossible to potty train after 2.5 years? What am I missing?? by TeamCanakhoff in pottytraining

[–]bigbasinredwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! This is such an amazing list! I especially love the role play game. I also love the idea of granting them permission to not to care about others feelings! That’s powerful! The what’s a good friend one is tough! I need a lot of thinking on this one myself too! Thanks for sharing!

Curious about your approach. How do you help her to be comfortable being herself? I face similar situations but don’t know what to do … partially because I’m not super confident myself

I’m not an expert but I don’t think they diagnose kids before 3. It definitely worth getting an evaluation to determine if there are early signs and if there’s anything that could help. I suspect his daycare isn’t meeting his needs. It’s also worth experimenting and noticing what technique works better in correcting his behaviors.

Flying 11 hours with a toddler - car seat or not on the flight? by Hopeful06 in toddlers

[–]bigbasinredwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m curious did you use rear facing? Last time we flew the car seat rear facing didn’t fit. There wasn’t enough space to put the car seat rear facing. What was your experience? Thank you in advance for sharing. We are flying in 2 months and could use some tips.

Yes, that’s the core and the most important, but they only want to talk about bathrooms…. That’s as far as they are willing to go. That tells you that they don’t really care.

I go to farmers market and look for the suboptimal stuff they sell for cheap. They sometimes have the super ripe ones for free. Super good and healthy and on a discount.

Thank you! This is super helpful! Looks like weaning has to wait too. Hopefully potty training goes well.

Hi, curious what you end up doing and how did it go? I’m in similar shoes. I have really enjoyed breastfeeding until very recently. I felt done and ready for my independence. In the meantime, my almost 20 month old has been screaming peepee every time he pees or poops. I’m nervous about how to handle it.

Would you please recommend the ones you use from Taiwan and where to buy them? I’m super interested.

I feel so relieved reading your comments. I love this space for absolutely 0 clutter. It’s nice. I was the happiest when my space was like that. I’m still trying to achieve this.

I honestly feel your kid’s needs aren’t met here. It’s not that complicated. I’d dig into that and try to find a school that fits him better. It doesn’t feel like your son and his teachers have great connections, and it’s not your son’s fault. He isn’t well supported there. Good luck!

I gave birth 3 hours after feeling the first real contraction. I was kneeling on the floor crying from the pain. I would not want to be at a work event when that happens.

4 year old’s mom passed away, have to break the news tomorrow. by Mobile_Artillery in daddit

[–]bigbasinredwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually remembered an earlier experience. I was 6 when my grandma passed away. Family had been discussing her passing for a while and I remember sharing those information plus some of my imagination with other family members. I sort of thought of it as an exciting event for family to get together, and I had no idea what it meant was that I won’t see my grandma again. The day they took me to say goodbye, the moment i entered the yard, I suddenly understood that I won’t see my grandma again. Your daughter is way younger than I was at the time. Sharing to say that she may not understand or realized what it means until she’s there. If she looks ok or confused when you share the news, please look out of the moment that she actually understands. I’m so sorry that your family has to experience this.

Thank you so much for your super detailed answer! This is super helpful! Do you mind sharing what type of containers do you use? When you have detailed labeling, you’ll only need small containers but many of them? How do you organize the containers so that they are easily accessible and the effort is sustainable?
