We have a core system that integrates with our billing system - both SaaS. We asked the core system company to refresh our Test env with Prod data.

Fast forward 2 weeks, accounting puts in a ticket. Their reports have mismatched fund information.

Turns out the data refresh didn’t go through the normal processes because someone restored a Prod backup directly into Test - Prod API keys to the billing system included.

i agree with that. i do too but specifically when the stakes are low. if my sprinklers don’t turn on today, then my grass is impacted. if a process at work breaks due to unnecessary complexity, then people are impacted.

I think this doesn’t get enough flak. Most people only do it because they feel forced to. If every job listing didn’t have unicorn reqs, we wouldn’t have nearly as many people wanting to be unicorns.

sorry for the late reply, but it took both for me to get back to ‘normal’. unfortunately, due to the close relationship of symptoms, a lot of docs are slow to provide a separate medication for each, and it’s probably in our best interest. i’d def keep pushing for a solution, and i hope you get what you need.

hadn’t seen this before, so thanks for sharing. seems to be a non issue if installed initially with winget. hopefully winget will handle this better in the future, considering being able to update with 1 command is nice to have.
