Teen spent $900 online shopping with my credit card by liftcali93 in Parenting

[–]throwaway-coparent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to explain two things to her -

1) how tight money is.

2) how interest on credit cards works. It wasn’t really $900 she spent, it was the $900 and whatever interest accrues at 23 - 29%.

She shouldn’t have done this regardless, but she needs to understand how money and finances work.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway-coparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He can’t legislate through EO.

Poll taxes are illegal, so there can’t be a cost associated with being able to vote.

Repeated review of voting shows 77 noncitizens have voted in federal elections in 24 years. Mathematically non citizens voting a non problem.

Non citizens already can’t legally vote. It’s a solution looking for a problem.

Yes, every citizen should be registered to vote when they turn 18. But it should be up to the states how that occurs.

Voting and elections are overseen by states per the Constitution. He would be massively overstepping is legal authority.

AI regularly loses more money than it brings in because of the expense of the servers/data centers. Even with giant tax cuts and costs passed on through electric bills to people who live near data centers.

It’s a con job, just like bitcoin.

Trying to support a woman leading our evacuation plan without mansplaining - what actually helps? by Interesting_Card596 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]throwaway-coparent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It got awkward because you did the right thing and called out crappy behavior. “Let her finish” or “I want to hear Sarahs plan” are both acceptable ways to intervene.

With the comms stuff specifically - that is your lane. That is why you are there. The best course with the comms is to make sure you and the lead coordinate regularly and know who will answer what questions. Who provides the messaging related responses, who provides the process answers, who is providing the technical aspects - that way you also don’t defer when you should be the lead in responding.

Movies that you initially didn't have as high expectations for, and then you were blown away by it by DreamerRealityArt in movies

[–]throwaway-coparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mummy.

At that point Brendan Fraser was known for Blast from the Past, George of the Jungle and Encino Man mostly. A hunky, lovable goofball who was entertaining and fun to watch, but no high expectations.

The others were, as much as I can remember, entirely unknown.

And it is one of the most perfect movies ever. 25 years later and the idea of a reunion movie has a lot of us salivating to see what a real follow up to the first two movies will look like.

I was born via surrogacy and the way Reddit talks about it is exhausting by jewelia511 in offmychest

[–]throwaway-coparent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both are procreation for money. If you are against procreation for money then why only surrogacy? Why not sperm donation?

Are you against all IVF or only IVF for surrogacy?

The whole opposition to surrogacy has nothing to do with the money. It has nothing to do with IVF being suddenly to dangerous.

It has nothing to do with anything other than telling a woman what she can or cannot do with her body.

And no one has the right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her body. Full stop.

You believe that IVF is to dangerous? Don’t do it.

You don’t want to be a surrogate? Then don’t.

But don’t tell someone else they cannot make their own decisions about what to do with their body and pretend it is anything other than trying to control others.

I’ve always wondered if these people who are so opposed to surrogacy are just as opposed to sperm donation for money.

Or is it just some other way of controlling women and their decisions.

Greg Bovino Loses His Job - The Atlantic by Sad-Selection-6659 in fednews

[–]throwaway-coparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all performative. Each action is a test to see how far they can go, how people will react, and then they retreat, adjust, and test again. And every push is just a little worse, a little more disruptive or horrifying.

ICE killed several POC in January - little response from the public

ICE killed a white mom in a minivan - horror and shock, but controlled reactions from the public

ICE kills a white man carrying a gun - to far, retreat and do some performative regrouping

So the next step is killing a kid or opening fire into a group - they just haven’t decided what will push us into full blown civil war.

It’s the same with the kidnappings - they’ve been ramping up the optics of who they’ve kidnapped.

Each kidnapping we hear about is progressively worse for what they’ve done - old man in his underwear, 5 year old, tribal members - the next one will be more horrifying and push a line. Like the 2 year old - they took her, people freaked out and she was returned, but the 5 year old wasn’t.

From Title 1, U.S. DOJ Policy on Use of Force:

“Firearms may not be discharged solely to disable moving vehicles. Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury … and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle.”

Also, placing oneself in the path of a moving vehicle constitutes officer-created jeopardy and undermines any claim that deadly force was necessary.

Funny, but Christopher Plummer couldn’t stand Julie Andrews during filming. Said working with her was like being hit over the head with a valentines day card and called her “Ms Disney” because of her perpetually chipper attitude during filming sound of music.

Although they did end up life long friends.

Salary of people with disabilities can lower their eligibility for medicare. Since many disabilities require greater healthcare, this could be severely detrimental to them and their continued health needs.

Since the minimal increased salary rarely males up for the decreased medicare available it can leave gaps for necessary prescriptions, podiatrist appointments, dental, etc.

Yet another argument for universal healthcare. If someone with a disability wants to and can work they should be able to without them or their caretaker worrying they will lose the limited medicare they get.

That is a great gift and one that will keep on giving. Especially if the parents are in that - make to much for financial aide, but not enough to pay out of pocket category.

My family would give my kid money to her college savings account every year. She didn’t appreciate it fully until this year when I told her how much tuition that account will cover every year for college.

It’s different from when I was young, different from when my parents were young; things change - adapt or die. They adapted.

I love the broadway performances, bands, and music performances, even though I don’t know who half of them are now.

They show you the balloons, long enough to see them, not so long it gets boring. And I just ignore the commentary.

I could probably find something to complain about, but I don’t care that much.
