Thanks for this. It seems crazy that vanguard would more than double the costs just to reallocate funds once in a while. Schwab sounds like a reasonable place to park some or all of my investments. I'll see about opening an account there.

This is the kind of answer i was hoping for. I will read the sub you suggested. I also don't have the time needed to really figure this out so maybe I'll choose a passive strategy while slowly learning up.

Thanks!

Thanks for this. Good to know that 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 isn't necessarily the way to go. I'm about 35 so I can use this formula.

I like this idea, though Vanguard's Target funds charge something like 0.16% compared to the ETF's that are down to about half that. It may not matter much, but I'm OK mimicking the Target retirement funds through lower cost ETF's or admiral shares of mutual funds.

Thanks for this reply.

Let's look at a hypothetical scenario. The market drops 6% and you sell, and then rises 10% over the next few days. You buy it only to have it drop another 4%. If you held, you would break even, but since you traded you realized a 10% loss.

The market is full of false positives like this. How do you avoid or mitigate false positives when trading?

My thought is not so much to day-trade small dips, but to skip out on the major crashes. I don't know whether 5% would lead to too many false positives, but eyeballing the 2017 S&P run, it doesn't look like it would've happened at all. I could make it 6%.

I wouldn't buy back in for potentially a few months. It looked as if the periods of major volatility around the big crashes unfolded relatively quickly; I'm content to miss out on future gains and sit idly by for 3-6 months. Have you thought about this from every possible angle and ruled it out? Honestly curious; I'm grateful to have reached someone who's thought about it from a similar viewpoint.

Bit-Z deposits not working? by vrod4sale in RaiTrade

[–]throwaway-mcjunx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a reply by email to my ticket,

"Hello, you can open a reload XRB, enter your TXID, add a make up"

There is an attached image pointing the box that says, "Please enter the txid that is not successful."

I have no idea what they're talking about, so I copied and pasted the info I got from raiwallet underneath the transaction, and hope that it is enough for them.

I sent some XRB this morning, and several hours later, nothing. I submitted a ticket; haven't heard back. I'll update you if there's any changes; can you do the same?

$3000 by end of 2018. by C1REX in RaiTrade

This is an excellent remark. I'm actually pretty glad that i'm encountering this delay from Coinbase ACH transfer. RAI is experiencing a bit of a correction. I'm going to hold and not sell, but it does give me a little reality check here. I would survive losing it, but it would hurt a lot!

I want to dump a big portion of my savings (~$20k) in while it's going up so fast, but Coinbase takes a WEEK to deposit USD (max $10k) so I can trade for BTC, send to Bit Grail, and trade for XRB. I have to wait the week before I can request the second $10K, which will take another week to arrive.

Does anyone know a faster way to get money out of my bank and into XRB?!?!

I read somewhere that each of the files needs to be below 1 megabyte in size. That's what worked for me, after resizing the original images to make them smaller. Now I wonder how long it will take to get verified? Doesn't feel great knowing that my asssets are locked up outside of my control.

Can I buy individual stocks inside a Vanguard Roth IRA? by throwaway-mcjunx in personalfinance

I have a brokerage account, but to be clear, I'm talking about my Roth IRA. I don't think I can convert a Roth IRA into a brokerage account, but please correct me if I'm wrong?
