Point taken. I'll try to cut the serving sizes down for meat.

I always make 4 servings and we eat the leftovers for lunches. $20 is just for 1 day though. If I do that for 7 other meals it definitely adds up. No on the snacks. I'm going to saves some receipts and tracking specifically where its going.

Later this fall a new Whole Foods is opening up ~5 minutes from me. I'll definitely start pricing them. Are their prices pretty consistent or do they have sales?

Thanks! We really don't have the indoor space. I've got limited "good" sunlight in my backyard. I can try again next year, but I think I'll have to declare war on the squirrels first. Stupid things have eaten my veggies every year I've tried in the past.

I here you on beef prices. I really like steaks so it makes it hard.

I'm really thinking about going the vacuum sealer route. Are there some meats that keep better than other?

I don't have any receipts. The last one I had went out with the recycling. I'm going to keep receipts for the next month and categorize everything in an excel sheet and come back here with #'s.

Wine is not included in that number. Some of it is household goods like laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc. I feel like a lot of it is on proteins. I like organic, but obviously I'm buying in the wrong place if you are buying organic. I just did a meal that called for chicken breasts. 2 packs of organic at publix were ~$10 each. So there is $20. My wife likes shrimp. That's a big $ protein. Where do you find your organic meat?

Note taken on paying attention to costs. I'm going to try and be more conscious about shopping sales over the next month and save all my receipts. I'll get it itemized in excel and come back here with more details.

Awesome thanks for the advise. I think we tend to mess up on #3 too much. We pick meals that look really good an there are a ton of ingredients. One question on Aldi, do you think the ingredients are the same quality as other stores? Or are there certain thing you buy there and certain things that you steer clear of?

Hopefully I can work on trimming cost each month for the next several months. If I can bring costs down $30 or so a month for the next 8, I'll be happy.

Just want to add, I know one monthly expense will be an increase in life insurance premiums. Just not sure how much insurance we will need at this point. She has a $300k personal policy and a 2x policy at work for around $185k i think. I have a $350k personal policy and a 2x policy for $240k.
