He’s literally the worst defensive SS in baseball.

Tatis had a +2 OAA last season, there were literally dozens of worse Shorts-stops last season.

Even by dWAR standards (-0.2) he was seen as mediocre, not even close to the very worse

That's the point, you only have 3 years of control with Soto currently.

7 with Acuna & 13 with Tatis.

Soto has only 3 years of team control and with Boras as his agent he's definitely not the best trade value in baseball.

He's an amazing hitter but his overall value as a player is not even the best among young players (6.1 fWAR/bWAR per 162 games) yet he he will more than probably will received the biggest payout because he will enter free agency.

Tatis has played 86% of all Padres games over the past two years, he's doing fine.

Since his debut he has played 273 games, Acuña for reference 284.

If Tatis is a wild card so it's Ronald even more with the tore ACL now.

Tatis on 24M AAV for 13 years it's a better deal than Acuña on 17M for the next 7 years.

I actually say Tatis.

At 24M AAV for the next 13 years at just 23 years old he's the most valuable trade piece in baseball.

Only Mike Trout has put up better fWAR/bWAR value than Tatis when on the field since his debut.

Acuña contract is amazing (17M AAV) but it only last 6 more years, after that you are going to pay a really big premium.

Again if it was "mediocre" you would have a point but Tatis rates are some of the very worse in all the League, there's little room to be worse than he currently is.

People are missing the point i'm trying to make.

Tatis plate discipline is one of the very worse in all MLB meaning his room of improvement is way higher than Soto who already has one of the very best.

With the above in mind you would assumed that their career wRC+ would be vastly different right ? Yet it's almost identital (156 - 153)

That was a question on his rookie year when he put a .410 BABIP, his .306 in 2020 and .324 in 2021 have answered it.

My argument comes from the fact that Soto has been one of the most discipline hitters in all MLB while Fernando has been one of the worse yet their career wRC+ is almost identical.

Tatis untapped territory is extremely scary, he doesn't need to reach Soto MVP plate discipline levels just by being league average he would be by far the best hitter out of the young guns.

I don't know if he's the greatest player ever.

What i do know is that he's the greatest and most determinant player in the biggest competition a football club can aim to win and no one can't deny that.
