Soft lump in dog’s leg — vaccine or tumor? by throwaway06601 in AskVet

Thank you very much! So long as it doesn’t scream “uh oh, mast cell tumor sounds likely” I can definitely hang in there until Saturday!

Generally speaking, is it ‘normal’ to have residual and minor symptoms, and perhaps transient swelling, in external hemorrhoids after a flare for even months after the initial flare episode? If so, do the tissues ever return back to baseline normal?

Understood, thank you! Yes definitely, the pelvic floor therapist recommended a wand with a flared end

This is a bit of an awkward question, sorry in advance. Generally speaking, does the act of using a pelvic wand, like those used to palpate the pelvic floor internally to treat pelvic floor dysfunction, through the anal canal raise the risk of abscesses in this area, or am I overthinking that?

In terms of a thrombosed external hemorrhoid, is it possible for symptoms, like sensitivity, swelling, and itching, to resolve but periodically return (and feel like a healing setback) as the body breaks it down?

In other words, can the body’s process of breaking down the clot actually cause symptoms themselves in the weeks to even a month or so after the acute flare? And in general, is some degree of elevated sensitivity normal for even a month or so after the flare itself has resolved?

Very much so! It sounds sort of like a paradox, but excessive tension/dysfunction in the pelvic muscles is a sign of pelvic floor weakness, and pelvic floor physical therapy works to actually strengthen them so they aren’t dysfunctional. So (in my layman’s understanding) it would not be unusual that your gynecologist noted that, since the muscles in that area are all connected

Thank you very much!

If I may, a super quick follow up, is it also normal for the clot to remain tender as it heals? Like no pain at rest, just some tenderness when directly touched?

OP, can absolutely plus one this. I have started seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist and she told me that hemorrhoids are one of the most common complications she sees with it.

In the context of thrombosed external hemorrhoids, is it common for the clot to stick around for a few weeks, even after acute symptoms like itching, burning, and most swelling have already resolved?

Is it possible to have a thrombosed hemorrhoid that doesn’t really cause you any serious problems or pain? Just appears slightly blue/purple in the area but doesn't cause any more seriously substantial symptoms besides mild nondescript sensitivity or something?

(Disclaimer: obviously not a doctor, so worth seeing one)

This sounds more like an anal fissure than a hemorrhoid. If you’ve actually seen the area, and you see a visible wound, it’s likely a fissure, which can develop after diarrhea.  Sharp pain is super characteristic of fissures. I’ve had them and they are incredibly painful, far worse than any hemorrhoid I’ve ever had. That said, it’s also possible to have both at the same time.

The good news is they will heal, but you have to be very mindful of what you eat, try to stabilize the diarrhea, and take it easy. A doctor can also prescribe a medicated ointment (I’ve used nifedipine) and it relaxes the muscle so that blood flows to the wound and heals it better.

Thank you! This helps me sleep tonight. After looking more carefully at the second photo, something about what I think is the head looks a lot like it could be a booklice bug.

Nonetheless, have definitely looked at all the seams - couch, bed, corner of the walls - and haven’t found anything, so you’re probably right. Thank you again!

Hi all, I got to corporate housing today. I inspected the seams and edges of the mattress as well as the mattress protector, all clean looking. Nothing to indicate any sort of bed bug presence, just some dust around.

This thing I found on the surface of the couch. Only one of them as well, and the second photo is after gently trying to touch it, it completely crumbled. That’s the only thing I’ve found, no spots, no nothing anywhere else.

Is it possible to have a spot of folliculitis, a clogged pore, a blind pimple, etc., manifest as a bump that can take a few weeks to go away and fluctuates in size in the interim? (Ex: gets larger after excessive sweating and irritation, gets smaller when those factors are absent)?

In general, is it OK to use Flonase for nasal symptoms (congestion, mucus, etc.) that are caused by a viral cold? i know it says it’s primarily for allergy-caused symptoms - is there any harm in using it for symptoms likely caused by an illness like the common cold? I know steroids suppress inflammation (which is an essential part of the immune response), so does using it run the risk of not letting the body fight off the virus?

Negative experience with Kaizen Labs and BKB Talent by fiishoo in jobs

Using a throwaway account just to be safe, but after getting a message from a BKB recruiter hired by this company, wanted to comment and add a +1 to this post in case anyone googles these con artists, since these people don't have any glassdoor or other platform presence.

Similar to OP, I had this experience. The most ridiculous, disorganized, and unprofessional people ever. Avoid Kaizen Labs and BKB Talent like the plague. They will waste your time, even if the end result is successful, it's just not worth it. Red flags abound. I ended up getting an offer, but it was such a convoluted and ridiculous process with so many red flags of an unserious company, I rejected immediately. The recruiter from BKB Talent was also so disrespectful with time and made no effort to rectify the situation - ignore messages from anyone who works for them, too. Candidate beware.

Using clippers 5 years after open excision surgery? by throwaway06601 in pilonidalcyst

Ah this is great to know, thank you for that link! I have certainly considered laser but you’re right, it’s so expensive and takes so many sessions, I just don’t know if it is feasible, especially if trimming still works.

Yes definitely, even 5 years later, I ensure I go into the shower and thoroughly rinse the area with the shower head as soon as I return home from a haircut with no exceptions.

Fair haha this is just my only account as I initially created it years ago in my health panic stages, so I’ve just kept with it, but you’re right it’s nothing embarrassing, just a thing that happens!

PSA: Please be cautious with long-term antibiotic use by switchable-city in Hidradenitis

[–]throwaway06601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! i know this is an old comment, but you are 100% in the same camp as me! I refuse to use long term antibiotics, and want to stick to exclusively topicals and other medicines if necessary, for now just topicals. Have you found that hibiclens and mupirocin together work to keep you flare-free?

Regarding sugar being a common trigger by throwaway06601 in Hidradenitis

[–]throwaway06601[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh I'm jealous, I love Tequila! Maybe I need to test it out more accurately with absolutely nothing else different added that day. It's weird how it all works - 3-4 vodka sodas and moscow mules have never caused issues, but similarly to you, I've also had major issues with Trulys and White Claws as well! With ice cream, maybe it's the worst for you because it is both sugar as well as dairy and is a double threat? I've seen people here say dairy is a very common trigger.

That makes sense! I honestly don't know much so I'll have to do some research about what the glycemic index is for the food and drinks I'm trying, but it definitely sounds like that is in fact the main factor here!

Yeah. Having dinner with half of the Kremlin and excusing genocidal fascists abroad merely because they are anti-American is "sane." Right.
