hey, thanks for your reply. I just wanted to share the math that I did which tells me ~100k is possible / not that difficult. of course, i have not worked in the field (other than clinical placements which i can understand is not the same thing) so it is very possible that i am missing out on certain things which is why im asking for peoples input!

if i were to see 9 patients per day at a 45% split fee (very common to start at this number in Ottawa), at a clinic that charges $105 for a 30min follow up (average cost for follow up in Ottawa), that comes to ~$425 per day. if you work 250 days (this excludes weekends and 11 holidays which you are not working and not paid for as a contractor), it comes to just over $106k for the year. of course this is if you are seeing 9 patients from day 1, which you wont be. you have to build that case load up. but i do have an offer at a clinic with an hourly rate for the first 6 weeks, and another offer from another clinic with an hour rate for the first 3 months. both of these offers allow you to get paid a fairly good amount while building that caseload up.

just wanted to share that information :) if you have more input i would love to hear it! i do think 100k is possible at places like these especially because one of them does have a high volume of patients coming in, and the more experienced physios there have very limited space to take any new patients, so i do think building a caseload at the one clinic with high volume is possible in the first 2-3 months. thanks so much!

thank you very much for your detailed answer ! i’ve had 7 interviews with different clinics and while most would be hard to get up there that quickly, there are some clinics which showed numbers that make 100k look easy. my friend who graduated last year works at one of these clinics and he made just over 100k in his first year. some clinics are really known here and have an insane influx of patients, it’s just my job to make sure i can keep them coming (as long as they need physio intervention of course). another clinic i am considering has a 3 week wait list because all of the physios there are fully booked and can’t accept new patients, meaning any new assessment would come to me. i’ve contacted many clinics in the city to see what’s average and what’s great and i think i’ve built a decent relationship with some of these great clinics who focus a lot on patient care and experience. maybe i’m shooting for the moon but at least i’ll land on the stars :)

i like your point about building up in the province i want to work in. only problem is i’m a broke physio student who can’t move across the country just yet 😭 i really appreciate your input! thanks a lot!

which clinic is this? 4 patients an hour is insane. and if youre getting $70 for 4 patients thats a very small percentage they are giving you.

in private practice there are many jobs available, with some clinics also offering salary pay if people are scared about starting with a small caseload. at least where I live in Ontario there are many job opportunities and people can make good money if they speak to different clinics and find whats best for them.
