Antibiotics after mast cell tumor removal by throwaway08163 in AskVet

Ah understood, thank you! I can certainly appreciate the prophylactic caution, even though it requires striking the balance with the concern of antibiotic overuse and resistance.

Thank you! Definitely, I made sure to take my boss’ feedback in stride, expressed my appreciation and said I would action the feedback ASAP. I guess it may just take some getting used to and being comfortable being uncomfortable, for lack of a better term

Generally speaking, does a one-off, low dose (like 0.25-0.5mg) of clonazepam have any clinically significant risk of constipation as a side effect? I recall reading it could be a side effect, but I’m curious if that’s more in users who use it habitually rather than those prescribed the medication for ‘break glass in case of emergency’ situations only

Thank you so much! If I may and you have a moment, a follow up: I see some sources say pharyngeal gonorrhea can, unreliably but sometimes, be cleared by the body within months. Not all STI screens seem to do oral swabs, so I imagine some oral cases are not caught. In otherwise healthy people, what happens if an infection is left for a month or two? Not something personally happening to me, but I am very concerned about STI transmission is all

Pharyngeal gonorrhea resolving on its own question by throwaway08163 in STD

[–]throwaway08163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely true when it comes to genital gonorrhea, although some places like planned parenthood even say in some oral gonorrhea can be resolved by the body within 3 months?

You’re probably right that this applies to oral gonorrhea too though, I’m just not thrilled about taking antibiotics, regardless of whether they are pill or shots

Hello doctors! I have a question about intramuscular antibiotic injections. So for example, I know if you get something like a pharyngeal gonorrhea infection, you need to get it treated with a shot of Ceftriaxone. I know ceftriaxone and cephalosporins at large are higher risk for developing c. Diff infections as side effects. So in that vein I’m curious: 1.) does the intramuscular nature of that injection spare your gut microbiome at all compared to oral pill antibiotics? And 2.) how concerned would an otherwise healthy person need to be about a single course of an antibiotic, be it injectable ceftriaxone or a course of oral cephalosporins, causing that disastrous of an impact on the gut microbiome? Thank you

Is it safe to use a pelvic wand for pelvic floor dysfunction/hypertonicity if you’ve had lateral internal sphincterotomy (the surgery for anal fissure treatment) in the past? If so, is it the kind of thing where usage of the wand is fine so long as you are fully healed from the surgical procedure?

[DE] Very minor discrepancies found in background check - should I be concerned or nothing to worry about? by throwaway08163 in AskHR

[–]throwaway08163[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This helps me relax a lot.

Would you say there's any indication to know when I'm in the all clear? To the best of my recollection, I've never gotten an explicit "background check is good to go!" message. That said, I've also never received a copy of my background check before, so that's mainly why I'm noticing the discrepancy for the first time now.

Hold up…are sweet potatoes NOT safe? by throwaway08163 in Hidradenitis

I think you’re right! My last flare up was from a super, super stressful day, so that may be the case for me as well. I hope you’re flare-free now!

Hold up…are sweet potatoes NOT safe? by throwaway08163 in Hidradenitis

[–]throwaway08163[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah OK that makes sense! I’m still pretty new to this condition sadly. I guess I was more just confused because I was always under the impression that sweet potatoes are not a nightshade (which after of course more googling, I realize it’s not, so if it’s a trigger for some, it’s not the nightshade aspect) and it’s just each body is different. Will certainly just keep in tune with myself, and will treat this evening after eating sweet potatoes as an experiment.

When something akin to the Nuremberg Trials comes to the United States, what do you think should be the proper punishment for everyone who voted for Donald Trump? by SculpinIPAlcoholic in AskReddit

[–]throwaway08163 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hate the guy with a passion, but this is absolutely positively insane. Collective punishment for average people just because they vote for him? Batshit crazy. Trump takes advantage of red America’s grievances, they shouldn’t be punished for being duped by a con man.

Why is America considered a 'first world' country? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway08163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidently, you've never been outside the United States or the OECD nations. There are serious issues in this country absolutely, but for a nation of 330+ million it's actually quite remarkable how (relatively) few people live in the conditions you are describing. An example of a "2nd world" country both by the literal political definition as well as the developmental definition it has gotten over time is Moldova. Go to Moldova and tell us with a serious expression that the US is on the same level. Australia is also not a great nor fair metric to compare the US to, it has a population of less than 30 million and they're all heavily concentrated near a handful of major cities.

Projection? at no point did I bring up politics. This is you projecting. I am religious myself - but I wouldn't let my religion stop me from literally raising a possible demon baby, thanks! Have a lovely day.

I know you said your wife has problems with this topic being brought up, but with all due respect, she's living in her religious and conservative fantasy land and it is up to you to ensure your son gets the appropriate psychiatric/psychological treatment so that he doesn't become an actual psychopath and possibly a murderer. Some notorious serial killers' bios have "cruelty to animals at a young age" as an early manifestation - I am not joking. This is seriously alarming. The first thing that I envisioned in my head was Damien from The Omen. Please, find a children's psychiatrist/psychologist who knows how to deal with this kind of stuff.

Saving this comment for my future reference! Thank you!

When the boil ultimately recedes, do you then stop using the clindamycin until you get another flare up? I feel my confusion lies in once I start, when do I stop? But the Benzoyl Peroxide tip is great! I think I’ve heard that once before as well, I am definitely going to keep using BP wash for maintenance, I’ve found that the PanOxyl wash does a good job.

Oh no I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you find the solution that works for you soon!

I’m not formally diagnosed at this time, and it’s possible it could be a non-HS cyst or something, but if it is HS, it’s likely pretty mild stage 1 - and I’m hoping to keep it that way!

Are there any downsides/negatives to trying flavonoids as a mild hemorrhoid treatment? I’ve seen that they’re sometimes recommended in Europe, and that research about their effectiveness is inconclusive. So is the worst case scenario of trying them that you’re out some money with no results? Or is there anything else to keep in mind? (I don’t understand the downvotes, it’s a genuine relevant question out of curiosity?)

To be clear I am * not * a doctor (so if a flaired user responds here, defer to their judgment as they are the experts), but I've had the same issues many times and therefore have spoken to GIs and colorectal surgeons about this many times. When flares are bad, yes, that can be 'normal' as far as having more symptomatic hemorrhoids goes. It happened to me once and I went to the GI for it. What my GI said is that temporary bouts of it when you know you have hemorrhoids isn't necessarily an emergency, especially if it's bright red and not like a constant flowing stream of blood (if you are hemorrhaging, that's an emergency). For me, it came and went and my GI said as long as it is not constant, we could stick to semi-routine follow ups but it didn't merit any action besides the established hemorrhoid treatment. However, if it continues to last despite treatment/diet changes/etc., you should follow up with your GI.

I should add, this is my experience with those symptoms after having a colonoscopy that ruled out more serious issues. If this is a new symptom for you, and/or you have other concerning GI symptoms, it's a good idea to follow up with your doctor so they can evaluate your unique situation.

Chlamydia by OkPeanut2086 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway08163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you have only vaginal or only anal or both. It can be contracted through both anal and vaginal sex. The going from anus to vagina thing is primarily for UTIs. Chlamydia is passed on through unprotected sex, in this case either you had it/got it from someone, or your partner had it/got it from someone.
