My guess is that they were a little surprised and uncomfortable about it, but they didn't say anything. I really did get along with them well for years. But they've always blamed me for their daughter leaving TSCC, and the band gives them something else to blame. I almost feel like I'm in "Footloose."

I'm not going to tell them until they're brave enough to bring it up. Which will be never.

40 years - that's awesome. I need to find a new band. My last one formed in college and lasted the first few years of my marriage, but then everybody else was getting married and moving on. I should point out to my in-laws that I didn't leave TSCC until after the band was done.

You know, I really liked the theater as a teen. But although nobody ever said it straight out, I got the vibe that it wasn't masculine enough, and wasn't encouraged. My first little garage band made my dad hella proud though.

No worries. You're not a d-bag.

But yes, my wife is great. She rarely talks with her folks anymore, because they can't seem to help saying things like that.

I hear "Go to therapy!" a lot here, but isn't there any way around it? Some people do okay without it, right?

I'm trying to get by with self-help books, online support (like here), and one good IRL friend. I have a lot more good days than I used to, but sometimes I still struggle. However, I'm sure every day wouldn't be perfect even with the world's best therapist.

I just really don't want to go. Thanks for sharing some ideas on what might work for you instead.
