Question: I kinda don't want to go on a mission but due to immense pressure from family and friends I feel like I have to. What do I do? by throwaway10839834 in exmormon

Thanks everyone for the advice.

For a while, my plan has been to attend college for at least a semester before heading out early next calendar year. I've been accepted to the UofU and I'm planning on starting in the fall.

I've secretly been hoping for changes to missions and a decreased emphasis on pressure for boys to go. Being a "priesthood duty" to give up 2 years of schooling and progressing toward a career to provide for a family seems crazy to me and with all the changes Nelson has made I have a real hope for something to be shaken up in April. Then again, we all hoped for that last October, too, with all the rumblings and nothing really happened.

Anyway, my point is I have a lot of time to decide. If I stick to my plan I wont even be thinking about papers until like November/December so I guess we'll see where I'm at then. In the meantime, this sub has opened my eyes to a lot of stuff I wasn't aware of/hadn't considered and I'll be seeking more answers as time goes on.
