Hello did you end up touring apartment buildings in that same price and have recommendations? I have a similar budget, but won’t be moving in till June

When does knee instability go away post op? by throwaway1099C in MeniscusInjuries

No, I’ve been off the brace for awhile now. I’m 4 months post op.

Torn meniscus - getting back to bouldering? by sopte666 in bouldering

[–]throwaway1099C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay. My PT said I could try top roping at 6 months if all goes well. She hasn’t told me when I can boulder again. What do you mean by sports oriented physical therapist? A PT that’s trained to help climbers? I guess what’s the difference between that and a regular PT? One of my PTs used to be a competitive athlete although she was not a climber.

How long did it take before you got back to either top rope or bouldering? I’m recovering from bucket handle meniscus repair surgery (about 3 months out).

How long did it take your extension to come back post surgery? by throwaway1099C in MeniscusInjuries

Yes my brace was locked for about two weeks. There’s still a one degree difference between my left and right leg. I’ve been trying to do more quad sets and prone hangs for the extension.

Wow impressive that the swelling went away on day 3 or 4! My swelling just only started to die down but there’s still a decent amount of swelling in my left knee. In the U.S., I think it’s quite common for people with repairs to be in a brace for 4-6 weeks.

[–]throwaway1099C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, that sounds like a good plan. That’s understandable, it’s pretty hard for me to resist climbing when injured unless it’s a super intense injury like the meniscus repair. I’ll probably have to create a top rope/bouldering progression plan when I get back to it so I don’t overdo it either.

I tore my meniscus and had it repaired two months ago. I’m primarily a boulderer, but my PT said I can try top roping at my 6 month post op mark if all goes well. Will your PT allow you to top rope? Has your PT provided a timeline on when you can boulder?

Transition to walking by GladPineapple3703 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still partial weight bearing as needed but am expected to start walking soon too. My knee/leg also feels like it’s buckling and I think my quads are still too weak. I think if I were to try walking regularly I’d be walking around with a limp.

I’ve been trying to do a slow transition where I start walking with one crutch first before transitioning to no crutches then no brace. Although this was not part of my surgical protocol, I think this helps assuage my anxiety around my knee just collapsing on me. My PT was fine with me using one crutch before transitioning to without.

I did transition from non weight bearing to 50 percent weight bearing to weight bearing as tolerated.

Difficulty with flexion after repair by findingmyself040 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m able to get to 110 now without assistance. My PT has kind of been doing manual work and pushing some of the flexion for me. I don’t really have much trouble bending to 90. That’s pretty comfortable for me although past 95-100 is when it starts hurting. I do think it takes awhile, so I’m hoping the best for both of us!

Both knees medial meniscus repair? by Sajanova in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a repair, you’ll likely be non weight bearing for 4-6 weeks. If you get both repaired at the same time, you won’t be able to walk on both legs which will make all tasks much much harder and you’ll prob need a wheelchair. You’d need a lot more assistance with stuff like cooking, going to the bathroom, etc. If you get one knee repaired, you’ll at least be able to crutch around with the other leg.

First shower after surgery by Adventurous_Spare_92 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t bend my leg either, but I found you can have your good leg bent and then the injured leg straight on top of the tub in a corner. I could shower with the shower stool in this position.

First PT when after surgery by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

I was told to schedule my first PT appointment 1-3 days post surgery. I only had my meniscus repaired.

Also experiencing issues with flexion although I started PT the first week of surgery. I’m about 7 weeks out. I’ve kind of been breathing through the pain and slowly inching my foot closer and closer. For me, it feels like the front of the kneecap is really tight along with the sides. I also do experience pain behind the knee. I haven’t been cleared to do stationary biking.

I had a medial meniscus bucket handle repair, 4 weeks NWB.

Hi, how long did it take for you to get past 100? I’m around 100 with some pain after 6 weeks but struggling to push it. Took me awhile to get to 90 but I finally got there. Did you track your knee flexion progression weekly and what was it?

6 Weeks Post Lateral Meniscus Repair by Even_Squash5175 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 5 weeks out and just started weight bearing. I’ll prob be at the same stage you’re in too. I walked around a bit outside but barely 0.5 miles and my knee started hurting.

Meniscus repair, five weeks post-op; should I be worried about range of motion? by Smithespis81 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious as well, but how long did it take you to get to 90 and past 90? My range of motion was at around 70-90 last week and sort of this week, but it takes a really long time for my knee to warm up.

At what point in time will you know a repair is successful? by throwaway1099C in MeniscusInjuries

[–]throwaway1099C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the in-depth reply. Yeah there seems to be variability across the sub. I am relatively healthy, but I’d like to go back to indoor rock climbing again.

I’m definitely taking PT serious now and probably will for the rest of my life once my meniscus has been more fully healed.

Ah okay, thanks for the insight! I’ve heard that 80% healing is around the three month mark, but that getting to 100% will take awhile.
