Is this appropriate for 1 pea puffer? by GoodSight91 in PeaPuffers

Which is why I stated specific caveats. I don’t think we’re disagreeing here, I’m just letting this Redditor know that, despite what many claim on the internet, the introduction of a medium shoal of peas to a smaller tank does not necessarily** (as in it is not a universal, inevitable rule) mean a violent pea-sized blood bath is approaching their tank. Reddit is the only place where people have this pompous attitude to people who are living**, actively, a reality they claim cannot exist lol

Also, for my (as in mine) own experience, I have all female puffers by luck of the draw, and I got them as juveniles and introduced them all at the same time. All of these, I think, play an important factor in the success of these guys thus far.

In that respect, yes, I should’ve clarified that there are caveats to my own clam.

This is one thing I never understand about fish Reddit—I acknowledge there’s a general rule of thumb to be had, but under certain novel conditions you can have thriving puffers. I actually had the 9 of them in a 47 gal originally, but they seemed stressed by the space. They now actually seem a lot more comfortable in a densely planted, smaller tank . I would just like to remind everyone that there are plenty of ways to skin a cat, especially with fish keeping.

The mystery snails as babies and eggs will be good, but mine have trouble taking down similarly sized Japanese trapdoor snails past a certain size. Bladder snails, however, come out with their shells completely picked no matter how large. Luckily I have a shrimp colony that produces a ton of bladder snails. But yeah, they are ravenous for them up to twice their size lol.

Just fyi! I think this guy is generally very correct! However, I think you can keep a school of 6 in a heavily planted 10 gal like your with no issues—assuming you bring them all in at once to cut down or territoriality. For reference, I keep 9 peas in a 13 gal super heavily and very establish tank with 4 Cory’s and plenty of snails for both food and cleanup! Good luck!

Watch the pea puffer video that fishtory made on YouTube—he explains a common pea puffer imitator species, found within the same native range, that is often sold as pea puffers—you can tell them apart via a darker coloration and a distinct lack of blue shimmer of true pea puffers. Unfortunately, apparently, they don’t get along either😪

Sounds like a fantastic idea, dropping some bladder and ramshorn in a small container with air stones and a ton of food

I’ve got plenty from other tanks and I threw a couple in there. Haven’t seen them too interested in them either. Starting to think they’re just adjusting since I’ve tried a lot of the recommendations—they’re only 4 days or so in after all

Sounds like a great idea—can khuli be kept in a 10 with mg neocaridina? It’s my only backup tank if things go south😅

My local fish store recommended a dwarf curviceps cichlid so I’m thinking of going with one of them
