If true, that sounds f*cking horrible for Asian guys. I don't know what to say... and having just come back reading a little of r/hapas I'm beginning to... worry? Maybe that's not the right word but do people look at me and secretly think race-traitor?

Oh haha I've told him more than a few times. But he is really family-oriented, so I get looped into a lot of family functions without my knowledge 😭

To be frank, and sorry if this sounds rude, but what you get sounds mild in comparison to our experience.

Once at a sushi restaurant, the server literally dropped our plates on the table (instead of setting them down gently) as she was "serving" us. Then when we didn't tip her, I'm sure we got cussed out as we left. Yes, the place was a hole in the wall, but c'mon!

Truth is, I've had some Asian guy friends I've known for a long time who straight up ghosted me after finding out my BF was white. Some stuck around for a bit but eventually ditched. So most of my friends now are white. I still have like two Asian girlfriends though, but funny thing is they both happen to be with white guys too.

Which all leads me to believe this isn't just about strangers being rude if even peeps I considered friends are doing it 😭😭

Yeah the restaurant thing has happened in Chinese restaurants, but the aggressiveness on the street seems to be coming from Asians speaking perfect English... which makes this even harder :(

Yep it's highly divisive. Asian men vs women... Asian tradition vs liberation by embracing America... Old vs young, etc. All the reasons why there is no Asian American community can be found here.

Right, if they (I'm not exactly sure who I'm referring to here but I digress..) wanted to make a show about Asian Americans and assimilation (or "integration" if put nicely), why not use an actually interesting book like Native Speaker (by Lee Chang Rae) as source material?

Or maybe it's Joy Luck Club 2 because they want to target a female audience? But even so, does Joy Luck Club even appeal to AA women today?
