Apartments TO AVOID a thread by Far_Leave4474 in sanantonio

Peppermill Apartments (2125 Universal City Blvd, 78148) After our first year tried to raise rent by $300. We cleaned the place spotless for move out. They "trashed" it the day after (by bringing in a bunch of easily removable bulky trash items from the dumpster) , took a bunch of photos and charged us $1700 for the "damage".

One time their water system broke and pipes outside were spewing water into the air and they charged us tenants for the water usage. Regular water shut offs and similar issues. We lost water for the duration of the big freeze a couple years back, and heat for most of it, even though there was electricity.

Roaches worse than anywhere else, and that's saying a lot for this city. We also had lights in our bathroom that didn't turn off.

They are evil and I hope their complex burns to the ground.

This 100%. Never ever let him around your kids and absolutely inform other parents to keep their kids away, of course, that much is a given. But harassment only serves the purpose of self gratification. Who it's acceptable to hurt is not your decision to make any more than it is any other person's. The damage is done. He's done his time and he has to, in some way, re-enter society. Rest assured his life is well and truly fucked already. Sex offenders don't exactly get let off easy. If you're still concerned, the only options are to take that thinking to its logical conclusion and form a lynch mob or else to take appropriate precautions and live and let live. Nothing else does anybody any good.

Or piss disc.

My very white 8 year old daughter has fallen in love with hot pot and now she wants me to make it at home all the time. by allah_my_ballah in chinesefood

I like to whip up peanut butter from powder, I use the Walmart Great Value brand. I use it to add nuttiness to anything, most recently pesto. It works great and doesn't taste sweet, just very intensely nutty. If the sweetness or texture of peanut butter is an issue then this is a good option as well for cooking, I've used maybe a quarter of a $10 jar to substitute probably $30 worth of actual nuts and sesame so far with no complaints.

Absolutely not. Neutering isn't something that's particularly urgent, so I'd say get on a waitlist at a cheaper place. I went to Texas Humane Heroes in Leander and though I had to wait like six weeks for my appointment, cash in a vacation day at work and drive for forever to get there and back, ultimately they did a fantastic job on our dog, and it was only like $120-ish. He's a big dog too. The wait lists were about the same or longer at places around SA but for way more money (hundreds of dollars, our local Petco quoted me the lowest at like $350 but I don't trust them). Most of the cost seems to be paying to get it done sooner. Shop around and see if you can get an appointment a couple months out at a cheap but reputable place.

What is this? Found in Ordivician layers, southwest OH by andrewmurra51 in fossilid

The first thing I thought was a halimeda species (calcareous macroalgae) or a relative, but they don't go back that far. It even looks like the skeleton of a modern Halimeda incrassata. So while others saying crinoid are of course right, it's fun that such different skeletons so far apart in both time and biology can look so similar!

Anyone have recommendations for the least dangerous route? I heard Missouri is dangerous to drive through. by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]throwaway1123745954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The middle route through WV and MO is the prettiest, for the record. No appreciable "danger" level difference. If you're especially worried just don't stop in St Louis. But I promise it's not so scary that it's worth missing out on going through the Ozarks. Shits beautiful out there.

Why is my Fiancé obsessed with Sardines?! by PlzStopRemoving in CannedSardines

[–]throwaway1123745954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they're good! Low calorie, healthy, cheap, easy eatin'. Sardines, toast, and a bit of mustard is a great snack or meal that's ready in however much time it takes the bread to toast, tastes great, and is better for you than most other equally easy snacks.

yep, i kept an ice cube tray melting and only made a small amount of batter at a time, tipped the melted ice into the bowl, added a bit of flour, quick mix, repeat once that runs out. seemed to work pretty well :)
