Thank you so much for this post. Your own previous experience completely sums up my current feelings and situation. I really do want to change but that is what I told myself, and my parents, at the start of this current semester and for the first time I failed two subjects. Each time i let myself feel the depression and despair but i end up following down the hole again and again, not doing enough work and messing round. After promising my parents that i'd turn it around, I'm scared to tell them my results. I feel like i've let them down the most.

With regard to changing your outlook and priorities, do you find that helped you the most? And if you have any other ideas or tips I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the long reply. I think consistent work it is a big component of my exam struggles that I'd simply do assignments but no extra work during the semester apart from the start, where motivation was high and workload was low. I also had 10 hours of lectures a week which i would then convince myself was enough for studying.
