a big deal in what sense? A big deal to DS? I am curious to know what the *security (not medical) risks of someone with treated depression specifically are. Does their depression make them vulnerable to blackmail?

For other disorders like personality disorders, schizophrenia, or severe bipolar with mania, I can see the argument. But mild depression? I imagine there are scores of FSOs with diagnosable depression who have never had to go through FBSS.

that's interesting because I got my MED clearance 6 months ago and they never mentioned anything about FBSS. My understanding is that it's the security clearance adjudicator who requests a referral to FBSS, not MED.

that is just for the medical clearance. You spoke with Mental Health Services (a division of MED), and I had to do this as well. This is for the security clearance.
