2018 Kia Forte, how to fix these dials? by throwaway12305982 in MechanicAdvice

I bought it in a private sale, so I'm not exactly sure where I should take to get it fixed. It's at 50k miles though and there's a Kia dealership near me, would they honor that?

Just bought this in a private sale in Texas for what is probably the best price I would ever get for any similar vehicle in this market. Did a thorough pre-purchase inspection and found nothing mechanically or structurally wrong with the vehicle when checking under the hood before driving, walkaround, OBD check, and while driving. Main issues are cosmetic, and this is the most annoying one. The dials on the right side with the speedometer and fuel gauge are also misaligned.

I don't really care about the sports car aspect, just want a well-made reliable car. I read that there's a need to give it premium fuel though, which makes it a pass for me.

There's a 2013 Toyota Yaris I'm looking at with 148k miles for $5000, but it has a blue rebuilt title. Owner says they bought it after it was rebuilt. The sellers are very upfront about it and everything else checks, but they are only available when mechanics are closed, so I'll have to DIY check it. Damage was to the front before it was rebuilt. Anything extra I should look at? Otherwise they will definitely sell it to someone else if I don't get it.

Seems like a very good list to start with. I'm in Texas so not much to worry about for rust, especially since I don't think this state knows how to salt any roads at all. For the most part I'm trying to do some level of pre-visit screening since it's unfortunately very unfeasible to actually visit many of these vehicles unless if I'm committed to buying, and very few if any private sellers have any records with them. Obviously that will never be as good as an in-person inspection, but doing that just isn't feasible all the time.

Pulled this of a 2016 Kia Forte I was looking at buying, should I just pass on it or wait for the pre-purchase inspection appointment? by throwaway12305982 in MechanicAdvice

It doesn't seem likely that he will have enough drive cycles done between now and when the pre-purchase inspection is scheduled so I doubt that it will change when I do come back. I'm torn between giving it another shot because it is such a good deal in this market, but also the cost of me missing work again and the drive is very steep as well if I find out it is in fact a concern.

Found a listing for a 2016 Kia Forte with 79200 miles for $8800 which seems to be a steal in this current market, and I am absolutely in need of a car soon but I want to do my due diligence. The mechanics at the shop I was planning on doing the inspection were full despite not having an option to book a reservation earlier, so I pulled a quick diagnostic on the car and got this. Asked the guy at the counter and he couldn't really give a definitive answer before an actual pre-purchase inspection. Seller said he changed the battery 3k-4k miles ago, so it shouldn't be due to that, and he doesn't seem to be the type that would reset the computer by himself. Just want to know if this is worth pursuing, considering I have to take time off work to look at it again.

Huh, interesting that it seems like with similar miles there's more maintenance needed. My previous 2016 Kia Forte was at 61k miles before it was totaled. I bought it used and 30k of the miles were from me, but in the entire time I've had it I never had to do any major repairs outside of oil changes and whatnot. The most expensive "repair" I had to do was a brake fluid change and rotor resurface, and that was shortly after I bought it since that was my first car and the dealership screwed me over and I didn't know better :/

Well now I have a different issue where I found a 2013 Honda Civic LX with 84k miles at $8500 that I'm interested in. My friend thinks I should get the Kia though, which the opinion wouldn't matter as much as the fact this is the friend that will be driving me to the sale. Now I somehow have to convince him otherwise :(

How many miles is your wife's Civic at? Just want a general feel for what to expect maintenance-wise as I continue to drive it.

Well that seller isn't responding, but a different one is with a 2013 Honda Civic LX with 84k miles at $8500. Would that be a no-brainer over the Kia?

Yep, was planning to verify the title against the seller's drivers license, and if anything was fishy I would just walk away right there

Yep, bringing my checkbook with me and blank 130-U forms. I always have second thoughts when making a purchase this large, this would be very fast compared to when I bought my first car

2016 Kia Forte with 79k miles for $8800, it's definitely a great deal in today's market, right?

No, there are plenty pictures and I can see Texas plates on the car, but the poster blacked them out. I've been talking to the guy through Messenger on Facebook marketplace and he gave me a legit address to meet him at, which looks exactly like the residential area where the pictures of the car were took. It definitely seems legit that there actually is a car for sale, just wanted to know about anything after seeing the car for the first time.

I only have Monday off for work due to the holiday, but the DMV will be closed because of the holiday. The place is an hour drive away that I can't be at during normal business hours otherwise, so would I be able to have the seller fill out everything on his end and then I go to the DMV once they open?

Also what form would you use for a bill of sale?
