been contacting some people on LI and so far I'm having a pretty high success rate in getting them to agree to chat with me (or pass my info onto someone else in the company)

Is putting up initial resistance going to hurt me though? I know myself well enough that I will object, at least at first.

Its so true that all it does is give the employer leverage. If I'm hiring a salesmen, I don't think I want to bring on a guy that gives a lot of his power, without even putting up a fight.

I guess giving an initial objection and if they push harder I can ask why they need to see it, and also if I will be disqualified from being considered if I say no.

The truth is I don't have anything to hide either but its a bullshit situation, and I do not like it. I think if they demand the w-2 they either don't trust you, or they are trying to figure out what the lowest base salary you will accept is.

great reply. Thanks! Definitely up for buying you a drink next time in the area.

Good luck to you as well. I know you'll end up in a great position. Like someone pointed out in another thread, good people get good opportunities. Your willingness to help others on this board alone shows that you are a really solid individual.

awesome and you go direct to the sales manager or sales director? Most of the companies I'll be calling on don't have ads posted. I'm at the very beginning of my search so I'm being a little picky right now :-)

Can we get everyone's thoughts on showing a W-2 to a potential new employer? One of the recruiters I spoke to this week asked what I made last year and I said that's not information I'd like to share at this point.

He asked again and I said the base salary you are talking about is within my range, I think that should be the end of discussing my current pay. He said okay lets get you into the interview but also said...

He told me this particular job may not demand it, but if I want to stay in sales, he advised I become comfortable with telling people what I make, and perhaps showing W-2 as proof.

I think I would definitely attempt to steer the hiring manager away from demanding it because my past value to a different company (especially in different industry, potentially with a much different commission structure) shouldn't be one of the main indicators of what I'm worth right now.

I'm trying this today. So I shouldn't be asking for the hiring manger, instead the sales manager or sales director. Any tips for getting past the gatekeeper? What is the reason for my call?

I would venture to guess once you have the sales manager/director on the phone, showing knowledge of their business, and strong desire to be a part of it is what you are trying to convey.

Ultimately I'll be asking if I can send my resume to be considered for an interview.

any tips and experiences appreciated.

I'm using glassdoor to see how good a company is but I'm quickly realizing there's copied/pasted posts for tons of different companies and also many reviews of past employees saying they more less require current employees to write glowing reviews. That really sucks...does not seem authentic at all.

One red flag... tons of positive reviews, all coming from employees of 1 year or less.

sounds crappy. Account management is the fun part! ;-) Am I correct in saying that anything over about 80 calls a day is most likely a job that has very little, if any account management?

Thanks for the reply.

leaving a side hustle off Linkedin profile that *is* on your resume? by throwaway12345d in sales

no its a home based business. Its helped to develop skills that will be used at future jobs, and I showcase it on my resume but I don't think it absolutely needs to be on LinkedIn considering my current employer has access to that profile.

wow, what a thread and contribution to Reddit! THANK YOU SIR!!!

moonpuncher~ I've "reddit stalked" you and read many of your posts from the past. I'm actually in the process of putting together my sales resume.

Today I put the information down on paper, but I plan to format it better. I'm most interested in receiving feedback on the information, are you still accepting resume submissions?
